    I remember...

Oh my GOD, that thing rocked! I had no idea what I was suppose to do with that at the time, butI had a lot of fun. Oh, to return to the days of my Steve Wozniak insigniated Apple IIgs. F-bacher

    AdmiralAK!!!!!!!

Hey, I've been here since early PB, when this website had like 2 members. That was back in the day. Iambob was here and we talked Java stuff. Then I committed treason and went over to the macnn forums (they were okay at first, then they really sucked, but they are actually manageable now)...

    Originality.

I like how when you click on the popupmenu on the bottom to choose a country, you get thirty choices for the USA, and one choice for Canada. That made me laugh :) Too bad that Apple could royally screw them over, although we'll c if they actually do something about this. F-bacher

    10.1 Speed Not Acceptable

I'm no expert on this, but the comment that Classic "takes up" 1 gig of ram is wrong. It is "allowed" to take up that much ram, it's not actually allocated. That means if you have a gig and a half of ram, then Classic can take up as much as a gig. VM is allocated on the fly, so Classic will...

    Mac OS X v. 10.1

Installing the software just makes it possible for you to connect to your idisk through your browser. To do so, go to apple.com/idisk and login. Then click on the iDisk icon in the upper right hand corner. Now just click on "Open your iDisk" and it will mount on your desktop. You can also...

    Cute easter egg found...

According to whatis.com: I don't think any of these things are "hidden" per se. One's a bug, and the slow minimize thing is a know feature that Steve has demoed before. An Easter Egg would be if you get info on your hardrive, and if you click on the right spot, a pciture of Bill Gates head...

java and cocoa, exotic and rare drink mix

iDisk is apple's server space for users who subscribe to iTools (it's free). To sign up for it (u can host a webpage and get a @mac.com email adress too), go to www.apple.com/itools After that, go to the iDisk section and mount the public folder for fahrenba. The examples should be in there...

java and cocoa, exotic and rare drink mix

Sure thang. Go Here: http://developer.apple.com/macosx/gettingstarted/ The java section has some nice tutorials about getting started. You should also install the developer tools, if you already haven't. If you want some more examples of Java-Cocoa code, just mount my iDisk public folder: my...

10.1 Burns CDs fine -- but what a buffer!

I don't seem to have the cache problem. Actually, when I got my iBook, my hardrive size was down to 9.4MB, which I though was a real bummer. But now I'm thinking there is another CD-size partition. Hmm... time to repartition my drive. F-bacher

    The NEW Longest uptime....

When I had my iMac, it would sit in my dorm room on for weeks upon weeks running SETI. Now that I have my icebook that I carry around with me everywhere, my valuable uptime has gone to waste. Remember, it's not how long ur computer stays up, it's how long it could stay up if you wanted it...

    About the 10.1 disc image

I can't seem to bott off of any other CD in general. My 8.6 and my 9.0.4 CDs seemed to be useless now, even if I select them in startup disk or hold down C. I have an icebook with 9.2.1 and OS X 10.0.4. I'm beginning to wonder if 9.2.1 had something to do with this... F-bacher

    About the 10.1 disc image

I only have that, but when I tried to burn a disk image in OS 9, I get a coaster. Any ideas on a way around this? Thanks, F_bacher

If you can't get the 10.1 upgrade....

Well, considering the upgrade is free, I'm not sure why this would not be legal. And since the use of the upgrade requires the installation of OS X, u shouldn't have to worry about legal issues. F-bacher

Scripting Terminal - how to with SUDO

I believe, "echo [insert password without brackets] | sudo [insert your command]" The echo command tells the system to print the password to STDOUT and the pipe, "|" takes the STDOUT and puts it into the line right after sudo get's executes (aka the prompt for the password). One problem with...

    right click strangeness

This is really cool! Especially for the finder (since it is carbon). So you can do stuff in the finder (like opening apps and moving through folders) without actually bringing it to the front. F-bacher

    Some java programming help

So here I am, thinking that graphical/moving programs are little more exciting than static ones that just sort of display numbers. But I'm having trouble figuring out how to do that kind of thing. All I really need to know is: how can I make a NS* graphical display window thang (I have no...
