    PowerBook 15.4", when? Can't wait...

Wow, (more than) a month ago I saw this thread and was in the same position as iscaro. I really want a new 15" but I don't want to be outdated within a month. Looks like I could have bought it then and not worried about a new one being introduced this whole time. Now I'm no better off, should I...

    OmniWeb 4.5sp1 - 4.5sp9

I am totally stoaked for this. Omni makes the best applications IMO. It took a lot of convincing for me to realize that speed matters but this should help. As a student I can't justify paying money for sneakypeaks but I have a feeling I'll like what I see when I do see it. I paid for...

What X window manager do you run?

I kinda like the look of that Translucency theme for afterstep. Maybe I'll have to try it out. I don't use file managers for unix anyway, they are severly lacking IMO.

Bad news for those awaiting an iPod update..

Anyone want to buy my new invention? It's called the holographic projector. You can get it for $300 so it's a deal. All you that don't care about the service that provides content to it should be interested since that wont be available for some time now... This board makes me so cynical. Of...

    X11 beta 0.3 problem?

Sorry I don't know what it is but I do know that mine is working. Is the problem in the ssh -X or when starting programs remotely?

What X window manager do you run?

I liked windowmaker for a while, but you're right OSX spoils a person rotten. Then I discovered KDE and I love it. The wizard allows you to choose a "Macintosh" feel in moments and you're on your way *insert goofy salesman smile here* But seriously, it's decent. I didn't like gnome at all...

Camino gets new Safari styled bookmark manager...

How's the stability of Camino recently? I got the official "Camino" build and love it but I could really use some extra speed that I hear Mach-o provides but I don't want it crashing every 2 minutes. The drawer was a nice idea since you can browse your bookmarks while still in the site but...

    Random questions...

for your .xinitrc thing: how many things do you have in there? Have you appended & to the end of commands that are not the last? ie mine looks like this: Eterm & quartz-wm

Should Our Schools (or Anybody Else) Have Macs or PCs?

my department uses redhat lunix on their wintels and it's a great alternative to windows. At least they don't crash and loose everything you're working on.

Next step for the user interface?

We already have that. Go to "Universal Access" in preferences and turn on zooming ;) No but really, this isn't new. Check out the Enlightenment window manager for X11.

    Gaim

Gaim has awesome buddy pounce capibilites, but I wouldn't use it on top of Aqua. Adium is better integrated. I have gaim installed on my computer and it's possible I enabled unstable packages. I don't remember. I know I installed it through fink tho.

    mpg123...problem creating buffer

I have not gotten the buffer to work on mpg123. I like it for it's command line functionality but if I'm doing stuff that will jolt the play I'm better off not using it. (doesn't iTunes suck CPU power like it's going out of style?)

    Newbie Query: Linux v. Unix

For your question, yes you will be familar with linux if you learn unix. I'm fairly familiar with linux by mucking around with Darwin. But a more entertaining paradox for those of you who said linux is a form of unix: no it's not. Because linux is GNU which stands for Gnu Not Unix so by...

    Chimera changing it's name

I somehow have not seen Camino referred to as the planet on Starwars EpisodeII. It wasn't a great movie but that's where I make the first connection.

    Linux vs MacOS X

I like X11 on mac. I will probably spend my life on commercial applications like photoshop but ever since x11.app came out, things like openoffice.org run very well. Linux makes you use only x11 and windows makes you use only commercial. We got the choice.

    Apple X11 server beta out

btoneill, I love you. I had problems with not seeing any aqua window manager thingie. Aparently it was because I already had an .xinitrc which didn't have that quartz-wm command. Now it works great. OpenOffice.org is usable! It's incredible how much faster this is and to be able to actually...
