    Hotmail, now with free ad-ware!

I just today logged onto my seldom-used Hotmail account (I barely ever use it, except to send myself some stuff when I'm going places) and I noticed a new download available. As soon as I logged on, my favorite browser (Chimera) gave me the option to download a file called ADSAdClient31.dll...

    Chimera still *snappier* than Safari

I have to say that the bookmark management in Safari is probably the most horrible garbage I've seen in my life. How this is supposed to make it easier for people who found the bookmark system difficult is beyond me. Besides, who the hell out there is stupid enough to find the bookmark...

Classic doesn't start at all! :(

Oh I just wanted to add that being told to reinstall after an update is absolutely intolerable and unacceptable. I chose the Mac to PREVENT having to reinstall all the time. If Mac OS X requires constant reinstalls like Windows, I might as well just go back.

Classic doesn't start at all! :(

Hey Cheryl, as you suggested, I removed OS 9 from the external drive and put it directly onto the same drive as OS X. I did a clean install, removing absolutely nothing from the installation. After it was done, I restarted into OS X and tried it out. As before, the Resource Update Error came...

Classic doesn't start at all! :(

Hey LaraCroft, I'm glad to say that I have the exact same error as you do. I'm running OS X.2.3 and have Mac OS 9 installed on an external firewire drive. I tried reinstalling a million times on the firewire drive but it never worked. Are you by any chance using OS 9 from a different drive...

    Installing Classic

Thanks for helping me out Cheryl, I knew someone would come through for me. I'm not sure this will work yet since I'm not home to try it out (I didn't bring my laptop with me) but I'll definitely try it out. I copied and pasted your reply and sent it to myself in email. Thanks again. Andre

    Installing Classic

I have an iBook 600. I originally installed the operating system on this machine through the iBook recovery disks. They installed OS X.1.4 and Mac OS 9.2.2. I have OS X.2.3 on it now and expected OS 9.2.2 to continue working even after I removed applications I judged unnecessary. However...

    IdentD

Well I do have xinetd.d as a folder, I'm just wondering what the config file should contain, what the name of the config file should be and where exactly it should be placed. Thanks for the help so far guys. Andre

    IdentD

Thanks for your help guys but strangely enough, whether I have the line at: auth stream tcp wait root /usr/libexec/tcpd identd -w -t120 - like it is now or auth stream tcp wait root /usr/libexec/identd identd -w -t120 - like it was before In neither case can I get BitchX to see that...

    IdentD

Anybody know how to activate IdentD in Mac OS X? I thought of editing the auth line at the bottom of inetd.conf to say ident instead of auth and changing the library to tcpd instead of identd but it won't let me, as if I wasn't root. Even when I run su and put in the root password, su just says...

    BitchX in Mac OS X.2.2

Actually it says something along the lines of lib.***ncurses. Only problem is, I have no idea where to get ncurses for Jag

    BitchX in Mac OS X.2.2

I've downloaded BitchX on the Mac and I have yet to run it successfully. Double-clicking on it won't do anything, running it from it folder by typing the program's name in terminal will tell you BitchX as a command doesn't exist, running it as ./BitchX will tell you that some libraries are...

    New Apple Movies (Ads...?)

I'm not sure that these would make good TV ads. The Zoom and Mail one might, but the X running around all over the place and the express yourself ones are just confusing. I mean, if you want people to even know what the hell Jaguar is, I'm not sure having the X running around will do it.

Why don't PC users buy Macintosh?

Very well said. Even now, after having bought my iBook, I look at laptops from Dell and Compaq and realize I could have gotten a DVD drive, a better video card, a larger hard drive and frankly a faster system for less. On the other hand, I wouldn't have the privilege of using OS X (which I like...

Why Apple can't disable OS 9 booting completely

Would I be dumb to say that I actually like OS 9 a lot and am only using OS X because it's the only thing that Apple still supports? I mean I know the advantages of OS X, I like its stability ... I like Mail.app in particular. But OS 9 is just so quick and honestly, I find its simplicity quite...

Why don't PC users buy Macintosh?

You're disagreeing with the fact that PC's are faster, have more games, have a better variety of software and have a sure-fire way of handling DivX and yet you're not offering anything to combat my statement. The fact of the matter is that I'm right. PC's ARE faster. This whole 'Macs are more...

Why don't PC users buy Macintosh?

Well as a user of a very fast PC and an iBook, I think I can easily answer this: - Macs are slow (no denying that, don't try) - All hardware upgrades are either too expensive or impossible on the Mac - No games selection - No variety in the valuable software available - No drivers for...

After all the Dark Side isn't THAT fast!

Saying that it runs as efficiently is nowhere even close to true. While I love the programs on the Mac, to say that browsers, office programs, graphics suites or games run as efficiently on the Mac as an AMD or Intel processor does is nowhere remotely near the truth.

M$ will NOT offer Windows dual-boot?!

To be completely honest, I find the option of not giving dual-boot absolutely repulsive. It's not enough that people already are sick of Microsoft's OS, now it's refusing them the opportunity to use more than just their OS. Apple is removing OS 9, but it isn't disabling it completely.

After all the Dark Side isn't THAT fast!

Ok that was just funny. Intel can AFFORD to not be able to make faster PC's. Their latest offering is a speed demon next to the latest offering by Apple. Intel and AMD can decide to stay on their asses and do nothing for two years and still Apple won't manage to keep up. Luckily for us, Mac...
