Connecting internet to 2nd ethernet port on Xserve

Two things to keep in mind: 1.* Mac OS X will always expect the internet connection to be on the first interface.* If it is not, oddities may ensue. :) 2.* To see if you can swap this around, go into System Preferences and move the second built in ethernet to the top of the list of...

    breaking xserve software RAID mirror

Tiger's diskutility functionality includes the ability to break a mirrored boot RAID. Just a note, if your going this route with OS and user data on the internal drives, you may want to consider the hardware raid card, so you can still have redundancy on the OS as well as the general file...

    backup tape drive

Exabyte has some nice units that won't cost a whole lot comparatively. You'll want to account for data growth and you may want to also consider a leasing plan on your tape drive, since that will allow you to get something larger now and upgrade again in a couple years. Seems to be popular...

Please Help With Auto Permissions Script...

So, why not just assign that as the default permissions for the share on the server? Otherwise, you'd just write a cron tab that runs a shell script that does something like: chmod -R 755 /HardDisk/Users/ocean/ That will change the permissions to be R/W for owner, group, everyone. If you...

    synch users over network

Well, WGM can be used to dump out the user data, but not the passwords, so you'd have to synchronize those separately. nicl can manipulate the netinfo data. It has a synchronize option that I've never used. :) Michael

    synch users over network

Eh. :) What Open Directory is going to get you is domain login, so you login to your machine at loginwindow and use that same credential to get into your email or file shares or any other services you want to build out. Folks find that to be easier than providing machine login and then...
