    Usernames

This makes more sense... When I first saw your username I thought you had taken it from Maj. Frank Burns the character on the 1970's TV show M*A*S*H -- I couldn't understand why anyone would want that name.

    gp3 convert

Hi, I'm looking for a program to convert gp3 to a "standard" video format such as mpeg or even AVI. I know that this can be done with QTpro, but I haven't purchased the Pro edition and don't really want to. (Yes, I can view these files with QT, but I want to convert the movies to a...

    Iran: Thoughts?

If it was a fair electron and it represents the general will of the majority then it was a good election. I would claim that Hamas is a legitimate democratic government because it meets both of these criteria. Just because I don't like their beliefs doesn't mean that it isn't democratic...

    Iran: Thoughts?

This isn't exactly what I was getting at. What I intended was to claim that we've come to this point because of a failure of all western governments over the past 100 years to cultivate a democratic movement in this region. We collectively supported the Shah, Mr. Hussein, the Saudi...

    Iran: Thoughts?

I typically don't have time to devote to these discussions, but I must admit that I'm a little disappointed with the present state of the situation. (1) Although Iran has potential for democratic reform, the moderate (reform) majority totally blew the last election by fragmenting itself...

    Uploading Multiple Files in Terminal

According to the ftp man page: "Note: mget and mput are not meant to transfer entire directory subtrees of files. That can be done by transferring a tar(1) archive of the subtree (in binary mode)." On your local machine you should be able to use tar: tar -cf tared.file.name.tar <input...

lost addressbook data! bluetooth phone isync

I have evidence that this dataloss happened because 10.3.X doesn't support the Z520a. I have a Macmini with 10.4.X and the sync process seems to work fine. Unfortunatly the the mini is my entertainment center (EyeTV) and the powerbook is what I use to work. I have not yet committed myself...

lost addressbook data! bluetooth phone isync

Hello, This weekend I'm trying to sync my new Ericsson Z520a phone to my powerbook (10.3.9) via bluetooth and isync. Apparently when I try to sync, random addresses are removed from my addressbook and I'm given an error. This is very of worrisome to me!!! I see a few threads that...

Help me out on my Design Technology "Major Project"

I've given up on wire containment (in tubes or wraps) because I have too many running from behind my PC to various external devices. Instead I've been using twist-ties to selectively bundle the wires. Larger bundles will sometimes be split into smaller bundles along the path. Working with...

Check Mail remotely using SSH and X11

You can use the -keep option with fetchmail to keep the mail on the remote server. Unfortunatly, this still means that your sent-mail will have to be imported (unless you include yourself with CC). As I wrote above, this is a relatively simple task, if you use mutt or another text based...

Check Mail remotely using SSH and X11

I'd suggest fetchmail and mutt. fetchmail will pull the messages off of your server and mutt is a nice text based e-mail reader. The mailbox format used by mutt can be easily imported to mail.app so when you return home you can import the messages you read and sent to your mail archive.
