Why Apple can't disable OS 9 booting completely

Anyone notice I hit the nail right on the head with my quick Power Mac prediction of 1.4 GHz? Well, they're actually 1.42, but still! That's pretty darn accurate for a playful guess! :) Maybe I should start a site and get banned from Apple Expos like the other sites last summer! Cool!

Why Apple can't disable OS 9 booting completely

What happens now to the people with new Macs who need a disk fixing program thanks to disk errors? All the current disk utility CDs won't boot a new Mac, so we have to wait for Disk Warrior 3*, and even then will it work with OS Xs UNIX permissions as well as it did in OS 9? I really hope...

Problem: .Trash Hack? or Virii? Problem 01/02/2003

Sounds like your disk directory is really screwed up; I recommend using Disk Warrior in OS 9. (www.alsoft.com) A new OS X native version is coming out soon, I bet that will be the only good solution for the OS X-only booting computers. Anyone else think that Apple was too soon in releasing OS...

    iPhoto/Movie in SW update

Actually the iMovie program code itself is probably more like 10 MB or so, it's the extra languages you don't use (like Chinese/Russian/etc.) that take up lots of space, often more than the program itself. (iPhoto is about 30 MB before language removal, about 11 MB after (i think)). Remember...

    There Here!!

and it starts...100 people posting all over the board in an Apple-induced frenzy, oblivious to the 20 thousand posts already announcing the same thing... even better, in this case the poster was so excited he misspelled "they're." PLEASE READ THE FORUM BEFORE POSTING REDUNDANT NEWS! sorry...

17" LCD Studio Display worth it?

I use a lab of 25 of them and have seen no color distortion at all unless you mean the fading to black on the edges if viewing at extreme angles (if you've used an LCD you know what I mean). No hue shifts though. But when Apple compares a 17" LCD display to a 21" CRT they really are pushing...

    Help me. I'm desperate ...

I'm sure this isn't the response you're looking for, but do you really notice a difference between 40 fps and higher? I know I can't see much above 30 fps... Are you the only person experiencing this? or was it a poor coding job by Aspyr?

    Keynote Buggy

I haven't had any kernel panic issues like those mentioned in the article but I can't display presentations since my 1998 laptop has 4MB of VRAM, not the required 8. I wonder what Keynote is doing to crash the entire system? I thought it was impossible under OS X, unless buggy kernel...

Anyone know anything about update to the 15" Powerbook?

Yeah it definitely will be updated in the next 6 months, more likely to be within the next 2 months (after the upcoming iMac refresh). Hopefully the 15" won't compromise on the cool new features the 17" has (AirPort Extreme for example - hopefully they will switch to Aluminum to avoid the poor...

    Airport vs. Airport Extreme

Oh yeah, here's a link about it: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107372

    Airport vs. Airport Extreme

You can only use the older style AirPort in your iMac, and if your wife has a new PowerBook (the only computers currently AirPort Extreme-ready) then buying 1/2 and 1/2 will limit the speed to the slower connection. So, go for the 802.11b - you'd be throwing your money away otherwise. BTW...

    New PowerBooks: two questions.

Thanks for not posting that link jeb1138! :) Guys, it's not like it's top secret or anything, but I just don't think that we (average mac users) are really supposed to have access to these press photos, and if links to these 8MB+ pictures are posted for everybody to access, the ensuing...

    Game Sprockets

Actually, I have a technical question. Why did Apple decide to drop Sprockets for OS X at all? Wasn't it a big feature of OS 8.5 and higher? It supposedly made programming controllers for the game developers much easier right? Apparently they haven't replaced it with anything better otherwise...

    When is Mac OS 11?

...oh, and by the way, Windows XP is probably the most solid release of Windows I've seen to date...not that it means much :).

    When is Mac OS 11?

Watch the MWSF'03 video at the beginning (apple.com/quicktime/) - kendall's right, he's basically quoting what Steve said.

    DVD Localiser

It's not cracking! This guy is in Belgium and the lousy US DMCA law doesn't apply to him. Basically the problem is for anerki that Hollywood wanted you to not be able to buy DVDs from the US before they were released in Belgium - so the region system was put into place. There are no laws against...

    Busted!

LordOphidian: "According to them. We don't know if apple was ever going to charge $50 for the update to all 3 apps. All we know is that thinksecret and some others got ahold of some rumors that said they were." There's more evidence than their word (unless ThinkSecret has decided to...

    New Keys on 17" PowerBook

ksv, NOOOOO!!! :) Everybody ignore that post :D... It's just that I'd rather the actual link were given through PMs so the Apple site admins don't notice a huge bandwidth sucking traffic peak from everybody linking through here at once. If there is enough traffic they may change the system to...

    New Powerbook Whiner

I'm almost positive PC Card type X can read every type below it; i.e. PC Card Type II can read Type I. This is because the higher the Type number, the thicker the card is, but the connector doesn't change. Also, I think the WallStreet you have (the model right under mine by the way, isn't it...
