Apple did a pretty lousy job porting iMovie to OS X, it's performance stutters even under the latest G4's. Buying RAM just to fix iMovie's lack of speed would not really help much. However, OS X is a RAM hog, and you will certainly see increased performance with nearly everything else.

I heard that Option-Eject works for the second drive. (Control-Eject for the Power dialog box.)
