    Jaguar on Lombard: Possible?

I think they post this kind of thing at xlr8yourmac.com...a while ago they posted how to do this. I would find the link but I'm tired right now; just use the search function and I'm sure you'l find something. I hear OS 10.2 is less forgiving than 10.1 is with these kinds of hacks i.e. if you...

    Bad disk sectors

I think the only way to fix bad sectors is to do a low-level format, or if your drive is SMART compatible, plug it into a PC and use some SMART analysis software on it...(it wouldn't damage the drive if you plugged into a PC, only there might be some Windoze files on it afterwards - nothing to...

uhhh illustrator is stupid in the brain....

have you updated to 10.0.3? (probably a stupid question, but the update only came out last week...) Otherwise I don't really know what to say...I see you're running Jaguar on software that was really made for OS 9 but was ported to 10.1... keep in mind that big carbonized programs (Adobe's...

    .mac backup?

You know what? It's these kind of posts that really get me riled up - they serve absolutely no constructive purpose. I bet the person who wrote this (probably azosx or pezagent getting his "revenge") is laughing it up right now, thinking he/she is on top of the world. Ed, I hope you see through...

    .mac backup?

It's a very good idea to make a simple, free Backup utility as a competitor to Apple's Backup. Why? Because 1, a backup program is the most basic of utilities every OS should include, and 2, I, along with many other Mac users, am especially annoyed by Apple's recent changes in business...

Fryke - an asset to our community

I second the moof!! Thanks fryke! You do a great job around the boards here helping others and commenting, and your website is always a pleasure to read too: I still can't figure out how you keep up with the news the instant it is released! your website is a great source for mac-related news...

    Hanging Shutdowns

What I would do in this case is reboot from OS 9 (from a separate volume like a partition or CD) and run Disk Warrior, hands down the best tool for these kinds of problems. I find that nearly everytime OS X hard crashes (requiring a reboot) there is some filesystem corruption. The corruption is...

    discount coupons

if you bought mac os 10.1 after july 17th and can prove it with a receipt or something similar then you can get jaguar for $20. otherwise, you are stuck paying $129 like everybody else unless you are in college, teach college, or work for the US government. Jaguar is a really amazing upgrade...

Testing 10.2 on a PowerBook Wallstreet

OS 10.2 will need about 1.9 GB to install, so even if your drive is 2 GB large, the actual formatted space will be less. So you will definitely need to get a bigger internal HD if you want to use any OS X release. As to the issue with the 8 GB partition to run OS X, this is a firmware issue...

    a DECENT complaining thread

Whoa, that must be a very English idiom... :) Could you enlighten those of us who are non-English but speak the language as to what that phrase means? I can't tell whether what you said is good or bad. :p

I have just received iMac 17" with OS X 10.2!!!!!!

yeah, please try what xaq said...it really bugs me to have to go through that whole process. But since there was so much publicity about 10.1's upgrade-to-full feature in the past when it was discovered by MacFixIt I'm nearly certain that they made some big changes to make this impossible...

I have just received iMac 17" with OS X 10.2!!!!!!

hey ddma, since you have the shipping version of Jaguar...are there any copy protection methods used for it as was rumored at spymac? I just read on WSJ that there would be a family license version for Jaguar for $199...I was wondering if that would be enforced with serial numbers or honesty...

Differences between 12" and 14" iBooks?

Most people I've talked to prefer the smaller iBook because of it's smaller size. They feel that while the bigger iBook does have an extra hour of battery life and has the bigger screen, the appeal of having a near-sub notebook is just better than having a clunky just-under-TiBook laptop...

    a DECENT complaining thread

I have heard that the reason Apple's prices are so much higher is that quite a while ago they bought long term contracts with memory suppliers and in return get a fixed-rate price for each stick. The reasoning behind this is that just in case a few RAM manufacturing plants blow up and prices...

    iPod Software 1.2 Updater - It's here

Awww...I can't believe Apple is turning so M$'y lately...the iPod update is a .dmg so you can only run it on OS X! (unless you have that diskcopy beta :)) But seriously, even though most of the features only apply to OS X, still...

    robustness of titanium powerbook

Ja, i bet if you unscrewed the screen and looked at the back of the internal LCD you would see two little circuits or plugs or something that are right behind those two spots. I know because someone heavy sat on my Palm and now it has two black spots on the screen. When I took it apart, there...
