    Installing GD on 10.3.9 Server

Well, you can compile *AUTOCONF* by doing a 'configure --prefix=/usr/' - that will put the files into the current directory. That's probably the easiest way. If you wish to have multiple versions of autoconf - then you'll have to either edit the autoconf template within the program you are...

    New Get a Mac Ad

As I pointed out already in the Cafe forum - Mac drops the F bomb in this ad. 10 seconds into it he mouths (and you can hear if you listen) "What the F..." :)

    Installing GD on 10.3.9 Server

More than likely you are installing a second copy of autoconf (original is in /usr/bin/autoconf) and the configure script is not finding it. When you do the 'make install' for Autoconf 2.58/2.59, what is the installation prefix?? /usr/local/bin/autoconf perhaps?

    Education

You can get Server bundled with a lot of other software with a Developer Membership, Select Level. Its $500. Probably not that much if you are just learning everything. If you are certified, you can become an Apple Consultant, it lists "Access to Not For Resale (NFR) Software" - but what...

    Permission issues -

Out of curiosity - what exactly are these permission errors? Trying to access files on the server and you get read-only access, when you require more?? When I hear about fixes such as setting permissions to Read Write every 5 minutes it sends chills up my spine. With proper directory...

    The Mac is Poison!!

What's under the hood is considerably different. I haven't had hardly anytime to get into it. I'm not sure what you guys were getting at with the "He was _QUITE_ early" .. I assume that's sarcasm but not getting what the sarcasm is for.. I've been following Mac OS X development since it...

    The Mac is Poison!!

In 1995 I purchased my first Mac. I purchased it for 'learning purposes'. I wanted to further my experience as a technician, and be able to support Mac OS X as well. I had a souped up Windows XP machine - ATI Radeon 9600XT, Athlon XP 2600+ .. ASUS board .. nice machine. My Mac Mini...

Mac drops the F Bomb in latest Mac ad...

They say you get used to it after the second day of using it :) At first - it is a little stupid - every program you run, every action .. "Allow?" You can turn it off, but it can stop spyware, etc from getting into your system. Having worked for Dell's tech support line, charging people...

    iPod erased itself; file recovery?

The music files are stored on the ipod in a hidden directory - if you go into terminal you can see them just fine. Only problem is that all the songs' filenames are changed to meaningless filenames... so you'd need to copy the music files off, then listen to each one and rename them I guess --...

Where to get Windows XP Home SP2 cheaply?

Windows is expensive if you want to stay legal. My friend connects to his work's terminal server, using the Microsoft Remote Desktop Client for Mac whenever he needs windows or IE specific functions.

    No internet with Boot Camp

Ah - system restore. I hate it personally because it has the capability to really foul up your programs, DLL entries, and the registry in general. Not to mention that you don't identify what the core problem was, and learn nothing that could prevent it from happening in the future. Time...

    No internet with Boot Camp

Are you connecting wirelessly or wired? If Wired: 1. Go start->control panel->network connections (may have to go to Network and Internet Connections, THEN network connections) 2. You should see a 'Local Area Connection" - What's printed underneath that? If everything is good you should see...

http://images.apple.com/movies/us/apple/getamac/apple-getamac-security_848x496.mov 10 seconds into the ad, for a half-second - right before the ad cuts to PC again, you can see and hear Mac throwing his arms out and saying "What the F..." You hear the F but the audio gets cut off with PC...

Printing from OS X through Windows XP

You can go playing around in CUPS if you'd like - delete the printers then re-add them. CUPS lets you define a *LOT* of ways to print to your XP box. http://127.0.0.1:631/ To be honest - when you are getting to this point, you have to ask yourself if you've done everything correctly on the...

So, in your experience, what went wrong in the Macs?

You guys in Australia and NZ are lucky. Word is, the situation in Greece and Poland are very bad. A single company has the license from the government to import Apples - and no other can get a license. Apple doesn't (or maybe can't) setup shop in the countries - so everything is at the mercy...

Why is the Apple game library so pathetic?

Quick followup to my previous post .. Parallels does NOT do DirectX as of yet. Checked the new beta that is out and DirectX is not on the list ... so ... virtualization for running games is still out - but there is always bootcamp
