Ordered my Dual 1.8ghz - ship date is 2months!

I'm hoping that if there are any Power Mac upgrades (like dual core stuff you mention) during the course of the next two months I'll automatically get bumped up. Mind you, if they can't supply current demand I can't see any processor bumps coming for quite a while. Sounds like they need to sort...

Ordered my Dual 1.8ghz - ship date is 2months!

I've finally made my mind up and ordered a dual 1.8ghz Power Mac with 1gb RAM and the nvidia 6800 ultra. That's the good news, now the bad. Ship date is on (or before) 29th October!!!!! I'm going to go mad waiting that long. Seems the graphic card is the hold up - I wanted the best one for...

    More choice please Apple!

Yeah, reasonable points. I think you can lessen any potential confusion with clever marketing and clear branding but it is still an issue. Mind you, plenty of other options do exist (they're just not made by Apple) so the market place is already pretty confusing for many. I think the...

    More choice please Apple!

Apple 20inch cinema display = 999 UKP. Apple 20inch 1.8ghz G5 iMac = 1,349 UKP. Therefore 1.8ghx G5 box must be worth around 350 UKP. I realise this is pretty simplistic but still, can't be a million miles from the truth. So, if Apple sold a headless box (with suitably cool design) with all...

    Apple Expo Paris '04 discussion

Okay, I wanna play the lastest 3d games and do some stuff in GarageBand (with loads of sample and midi channels etc). I also dabble in web programming at home (Java, JSP, Tomcat, Posgtres, etc.) Is the iMac gonna cut it? Or, do I really want to get a tower and a better gfx card (I already...

Centering on Safari (scroll bar/ HTML issues?)

Bit of a nasty hack but try applying overflow: scroll to your body element.... e.g. <body style="overflow: scroll"> Means you will always get scroll bars (at least you do in the quick test I just tried in Safari) - but you always get both vertical and horizontal so looks ugly! If I...

Will the mobile phone kill the iPod?

So, future smart phones need... 1. Bigger storage capacity. 2. Better communication speed with computers. 3. Much longer battery life to support all the tasks they will be able to do. 4. Nice elegant interfaces (to keep us Mac users happy!) Agree?

Will the mobile phone kill the iPod?

I take your point Giaguara but there is a difference. The iPod is but one device within an area of technology. It's not the whole of mobile music playing - just one part. Therefore it can get replaced without taking the whole area with it. If stuff didn't die out/evolve we would all still...

Will the mobile phone kill the iPod?

I think this will happen, albeit slowly. With flash cards and the like getting larger capacities and cheaper I think it is inevitable. Whilst the iPod is undeniable cool, at the end of the day it's just a music player. If your phone could do it why would you want two devices in your pockets...

Can anyone tell me why these rollovers aren't working?

Yep - I agree. The fact those extra bits were there wasn't the problem - just the location of them. I still add comments around JavaScript blocks, just make sure the comments are on their own lines. This is extra important if you have the script in the body portion of the page (rather than...

    Bandwidth usage meter?

I tried sudo ipfw -a list, got various bits of info back (yep, I have my firewall on). Interesting. Now, I need to convert it into a more readable format and somehow track it over time so I can split it into months. A cron job methinks. Stuff to research! I still haven't found any software...

    Bandwidth usage meter?

Sorry, I wasn;t clear enough. I don't want to know my current speed or network throughput. I want a historical record of how much bandwidth I've used (per month ideally) so I can see when I'm getting close to my 2gb per month limit. I did a few seaches (including on this forum) and didn't...

    Bandwidth usage meter?

Anyone know of a decent broadband bandwidth usage meter for OS X? Just got broadband and I have a 2gb a month limit but no easy way to check it out. Freeware ideally! ;o)

    Broadband for mac..in the uk

Just had a look at the pipex website. 19.99 UKP a month gets you 512/256 speed with 1gb monthly limit. This isn't as good as the wanadoo package as far as I can see. That gives you 2gb limit with 512 speed (I presume 256 upload but not sure) for 17.99 a month. I've no idea what their...

    Broadband for mac..in the uk

I've been considering getting broadband. Wanadoo (nee freeserve) are currently charging 17.99 a month for 512k access with 2gig a month bandwidth. Seems a reasonable deal to me but their site says they don't support OS X. (it actually explicitly states that it excludes it!). As I was...

    Geekiness percentage

11.83432% - Geekish tendencies I'm only really a geek about computers. I've never been into role playing games or the other classic geek stuff. Geek is a bit of a loose term though isn't it? You can be a geek about lots of different things.

The Political Compass- Where are YOU?

Economic Left/Right: 0.88 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -1.64 Had a real hard time answering some of the questions. As others have pointed out the questions in these kind of things are often skewed and it's hard to answer with a simple negative/positive response. Sometime there are more...

    Request for iPhoto features?

gwynarion: what's your Canon EOS Digital Rebel like? I've recently got a new camera and that was one I looked at. I decided I couldn't justify spending that much and ended up with a FujiFilm S7000 instead (also 6.3mp), which I'm pretty happy with. TommyWillB: I've been playing with iView...

    Request for iPhoto features?

I think the size of your pictures makes a big difference to iPhoto's speed too. I recently got a 6 megapixel camera to replace my old 1.3 one. Since sticking a few of these larger images iPhoto has slowed down so much that I've given up using it and am instead trying out some alternatives.
