    The BIG OS 10.2 thread...

Iamnotmad thanks for your suggestion, but in fact, as I replied to aqualung, this got sorted out a while back in the thread. Since some of you haven't read that far, I should reiterate that I eventually discovered that my problem was that I had an alias to the apps folder in the dock, not...

    The BIG OS 10.2 thread...

Aqualung, apart from your choice language, you haven't been following the thread. If you had, you would realise that this got sorted way back. Incidentally I tried the method you advocate and, yes it works OK. However, then someone told me about Fruitmenu, which allows you full...

    Virtual PC 5.0 SPEED !

I too have given up on VPC 5 in OSX. However, SoftWindows runs (in Classic mode) and is just as fast as it ever was. Can anyone explain that? Shame they've stopped making it....

    Serious Problem...Please Help

Just to add to the list of woes ...I have had problems connecting under Mac OSX too. I have an ADSL modem which connects every time in OS9 ... However in OSX it will only connect during the first two minutes after the Mac has started. After that time I get a 'connection failed' message...

    Best pc emulator.

It's probably too late to post this - but I'd like to disagree with Admiral. At the moment Soft Windows is way ahead of VPC running in OSX. VPC is unbearably slow. S/W on the other hand cracks along. Just my experience ....

    Printing error, any ideas?

What application are you trying to print from? Word won't print to a Canon from the icon on the toolbar - you have to go to the file menu then down to print. Took me a fortnight to find that out! cheers

    iTunes encoding quality

I'm not sure what Jadey means by "resonance" - but I think it's a little more complex than that! All the same it is true there's no 'right' answer in HiFi. The distortions involved in the recording process - such as the aural signature of microphones, the ambience of the recording...

    iTunes encoding quality

Beef - re your comments about the EL63's - I have heard the new Quads and I don't think they are as good. Perhaps I'd get used to them if I had them at home for long enough ... I'm not certain but I think that Quad continues to make the EL63 - mine aren't that old. Hardcore HiFi fans...

    iTunes encoding quality

As a Hi-Fi obsessive who has now become a Mac obsessive too, I say forget MP3, if you want quality. ANY kind of compression will be audible with even a half decent hi-fi. So, what we are talking about is compromise - and you trade off quality for size. Anything above 160 is going to...

    The BIG OS 10.2 thread...

Well I tried out your suggestions and nothing seemed to work which had me stumped. Then I thought. I haven't got the FOLDER in the dock, I've got an ALIAS to the folder. So I made a new folder, dragged it into the dock ...and it works. Thanks for all your suggestions ...that's what...

    The BIG OS 10.2 thread...

Sorry SimX I seem to have stirred you up a bit! You actually had me doubting my sanity for a moment, then I went back to the dock and tried what is being suggested. Move the mouse over the dock ...yes it opens ... Find my Apple menu folder ....double click to open it (it doesn't open...

    The BIG OS 10.2 thread...

Sorry to harp on...but ... I do get a little p.....d off with being patronised about learning to love the dock and forget the Apple menu. It takes me two clicks to open apps in the dock because I HAVE ALREADY created an Apple menu folder there. It's the only way to make it half...

    The BIG OS 10.2 thread...

Thanks for your replies about the Apple menu but I'm afraid both of you miss the point ... I thought I had made clear that my complaint about the dock is to do with opening NEW apps, not returning to ones already open. (Even for those already in the dock you need two clicks ...) Yes, of...

    The BIG OS 10.2 thread...

The only thing I find really irritating is the lack of customisation in the Apple menue. Currrently there is no way to move between apps with a single click of the mouse. The Apple menu is the only menu always available and in OS9 it could be customised to put your apps there. This is -...

    OS10.1-how i Like it

Yes, it's much better than the Beta. I was so put off by that, that I probably wouldn't have bothered to try again, except that my new Mac came with 10.1 It is faster, and less irritating. Classic works MUCH better. It still isn't as intuitive as OS9 (or Windoze for that matter) - and I...

Who thinks the U.S. should retaliate?

Here's the view of an Afgan, circulating by e-mail in the UK, just now ... > > I've been hearing a lot of talk about "bombing Afghanistan back to the > > Stone Age." Ronn Owens, on KGO Talk Radio today, allowed that this would > > mean killing innocent people, people who had nothing to...

A time for understanding after the attack on America

I discovered today that someone who works yards from me in my office in a small Scottish town has an aunt who is 'missing' in the aftermath of this terrible crime. So the tentacles spread far and wide ... Kilowatt asks what should you do, 'become less American'? Well, whilst there are...

A time for understanding after the attack on America

I know you guys are going to find this comment offensive ...but as you say 'wake up, smell the coffee'. First let me emphasise that THIS WAS A COMPLETELY INEXCUSABLE ACT. It was barbaric, inhumane ...words fail to capture the essence of such evil ... BUT ... How is it that none of you...

Let's see how much RAM helps out OS X

There has been a lot of discussion about memory on this site, but - forgive me if I have missed it - not much about virtual memory. I'm not technically literate, but I do know that using virtual memory under Mac OS 9 slows your machine dramatically. It makes me question why Apple set it...
