    I had a similar problem. I tried to solve it by reinstalling from an external SCSI drive - which I know you can't do with the iMac - however presumably an external USB will work??? Anyway, like you I zeroed the data on the internal drive and then I put back the copy of internal drive...

    Still having probs with connecting. HELP!

    I haven't any advice to offer but thought you might like to know I have exactly the same problem. I'm using a beige G3 and connect via ISDN. The connection happens - at least according the to PPP connect box -but Internet Explorer refuses to acknowledge the connection.
