sounds like the finder is hosed, which is why you have some menu items, and the dock works, but can't even use a different user as that is part of the finder. looks like you'll have to do as nix says and archive and install.

i use the http plugin with my hotmail, and am able to get my mail. there are times that mail loses connection, but so does msn messenger. of course, i'm had a hotmail account for almost a decade now, so i've been grandfathered in to all this new plus stuff.

i have seen some places sell that model, with less upgrades, or close to 500usd. i personally wouldn't pay more than 200usd, but thats because i have a nicely upgraded one now. if i didn't have a g4, then i could see myself paying about 350usd for it.
