    Umax Scanner Mac Death!

I had this happen on a beige g3 with os9 once too. Don't know if I had the same model scanner, but it was a umax. What it turned out to be was a buggy ethernet extention for a third party ethernet card (FE511 was the name of the extention). (Built in ethernet was dead, thats why we had...

    Old Thrustmaster ADB Drivers needed

Hi friends, I know this is a long shot, but my friend has a powermac 660av with my old Thrustmaster MARK I ADB joystick, and I was wondering if anyone has a copy of the old drivers. He's running System 7.5.3, I believe - though we can upgrade it to os8 if needed. The drivers seem to...

iTunes sharing music on the same computer

I'm going to recommend something a little different, but its pretty easy to do. As I write this, I am setting it up on my computer between my sisters and I. I'm the only one with music on here anyway, so why not? :) Summery: We'll symlink one user's iTunes folder to another user's, and...

I formatted a drive in OSX using UFS, now I can't access from linux.

the file in question is /proc/filesystems (just cat it). My generic debian stable box doesn't show UFS. From a little work on google: 1) there is a kernel module called 'ufs' which may allow read-only access. 2) -o ufstype=openstep must be used on the mount command, as there are...

    What is this???

I think the funniest error message comes from linux: "You don't exist, go away" http://www.tldp.org/FAQ/Linux-FAQ/error-messages.html#you-don-t-exist Although, my friend's box used to say: "Killing children! Killing children! Killing children!" when he would shut it down :p

    openssh < v3.7 vulnerablility

Sounds like you have already built and installed a new sshd. What I would do in this situation, is back up apple's provided sshd, and symlink your version over top of where apple's is for example: # mv /usr/sbin/sshd /usr/sbin/sshd.apple.old # ln -s /usr/local/sbin/sshd /usr/sbin/sshd...

    What is this???

Wait, it actually says "bla bla bla" ?! Grep the source code of the ssh client you use, and see what you can come up with. And, remember, try using verbose options with your ssh client - the error may be a bit more informative if you do.

    What is this???

Sounds like /etc/sshd_config may be set to disallow port forwarding. Sometimes, this is in /etc/ssh/sshd_config WHY must we use underscores in unix... we know better.... anyway, could be a software update disabled port forwarding in an effort to tighten up security. If you can't...

'ls' in FTP error on G5 under 10.2.7

davidbrit2 hit the nail on the head. FTP is a major bitch these days. While it can be made easier, there's always some cavet. I guess this is why so many downloads are http now.

    ssh tunneling and classic

Simple! As long as you have ssh access somewhere on the remote computer's network. I don't know how this will help with classic, but ssh tunneling is just crazy useful anyway :p Lets say I have some linksys router at a remote location, and I need to edit some paramater on the router's...

    Installer.app not installing (null)

I am somehow unable to install ANYTHING in a .pkg, unless I get inside it and manually unpax it, which is annoying. Here is a screenshot of the error I get: http://lfnet.net/~liggett/images/wtf-diskspace.jpg Any ideas? Oh, also tried authenticating as root, just to see if it might be...

[HOWTO] Update firmware on Linksys router

I did some googleing, and it looks like you can also get errors if your firmware is not titled code.bin So, rename it to code.bin if it isn't named that already. Also, it appears people have had trouble reseting the passwords using mozilla-based browsers, such as netscape. I was able to do...

[HOWTO] Update firmware on Linksys router

well, the password is always printed as "••••••••••••" on the router's page, even if you reset it. This is just so you can't view the page's html and figure out the password (used to work). If you do set it blank, MAKE SURE you type 'bin' first. Without bin, it will give you a password error...

[HOWTO] Update firmware on Linksys router
