Not to beat Fryke to it or anything, but I actually had some laying about on my Desktop (not sure why, but they're good). Finder General Preferencess Finder Labels Preferences Finder Sidebar Preferences Finder Advanced Preferences A little note that the "Show Hidden File" preference...

anyone a bit disapointed with rendezvous?

Fast User Switching, to get the cube effect, needs QuartzExtreme. As far as networking goes, you need to remember that this is still a beta, and they are getting the bugs worked out. I think Rendezvous works great with iChat and other apps, and I'm attributing my network problems to debug code...

    Panther 7B21 (newer Panther builds)

I got stuck on Getting Local Users also when I upgraded my 10.2.6 to the WWDC Build. I had to erase my drive and clean install Panther to get any operation out of my iMac.

    Panther 7B21 (newer Panther builds)

Actually I just moved away (sad, I loved it there) to Charleston, WV; just haven't had the time to change my bio.

    Panther 7B21 (newer Panther builds)

Disc 3 installs X11 User, Additional Fonts, and Additional Speech Voices. Only 90 MB of stuff or so.

    Panther 7B21 (newer Panther builds)

7B21 upgraded my previous Panther install just fine.

    User Switching Question

Well, that's a nice idea. It isn't in Panther WWDC or from the looks of it 7B21, but maybe in a month or two, if Apple agrees with those who want it.

    Panther 7B21 (newer Panther builds)

When an application crashes it also asks if you would like to send a bug report to Apple. Nice touch.

    Panther 7B21 (newer Panther builds)

When I say 3 CDs, I'm not talking about the Developer Tools. There is a Mac OS X Install CD 1, 2, and 3, the last one only being 90 MB or so. I realize that Mac OS X is a new thing (I'm not new to the Mac anyway), it is just exciting at how much systems in general have evolved over time...

    Panther 7B21 (newer Panther builds)

This build is on 3 CDs. Wow. Granted CD 3 is only 100 MB of stuff or so, but still. Its interesting to think how far the Mac OS has come, from booting/installing from a floppy to needing 3 CDs.

    XCode

i got Xcode to install, but I can't find out how to get the Cross Development to work. According to the docs you use the "Search Paths target setting" but I can't find it anywhere! Anyone have any info? Is this even in this version of Xcode for 10.3?

Buy.com Music Store (the mighty merging of 3 threads)

According to the Q3 Earning Conference Call, end-of-the-yearish. Hopefully it will get some people to convert over, as opposed to suspecting an Apple move to the x86 chip, as all to many people think (and some of my PC friends suggest. It grows tiring to explain to them over and over…).

    X11 not working in panther?

Has anyone tried the Ports Manager (Darwin Ports) in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder? I couldn't get KDE to install, though quartz-wm in X11 works fine.

    Mirror Agent

I don't have an iDisk and it shows up for me. Hopefully it will become smarter about that; always stops a logout for me.

Buy.com Music Store (the mighty merging of 3 threads)

So I go and look at their, um, "ads"; if I can call them that. Imitation is the highest form of flattery, yes. These, however, take it a bit too far. I played them with an iTMS ad in the background so I could see the similarity on a large scale. I doubt they can actually last for any long-term...

Toast 5 not Working in panther

On some .toast files, Apple Disc Copy (now called DiscImageMounter and part of the System or Disc Utility in Panther) opens them just fine. Some, but not all.

    PHP Not Working in 10.3

Ah yes... This is a problem I've come across as well. I've found a solution for it (it involves the CLI, but if you got PHP working in the first place, you probably already are OK with it. Oh, and enter everything after the rhale1%, the stuff before it is to orient yourself, so you know its the...

    PHP Not Working in 10.3

Has anyone noticed that in 10.3, PHP 4.3.2 no longer works? I installed Apache 2, PHP 4, and MySQL, all latest releases; Apache works, and I guess MySQL does too, but without PHP I can't test it. It seems strange that Panther would kill web server related software. Anyone have and ideas on this?

Michigan Avenue Apple Store opening today

Ahh! I couldn't believe that it was opening THIS weekend! I missed it by 2 weeks! For the past 6 years I lived in Chicago, and just my luck that I would move to Charleston, WV before the Apple Store on N. Michigan opens. It looks great; good job Apple! :D (Oh, and thanks to Giaguara for the...
