    Music player in 1.0

Apple had a decision to make: should they have two applications that do the nearly the same thing? The CD app, while pretty and small, could only play CDs and MP3s. It could not do a CD title search, could not stream audio, could not burn CDs, and didn't have the Visualizer. While I don't...

    Final Install Problems

If I remember correctly, the instructions say that you must put it on the first half of any partition and that the partition cannot be larger than 9MB in size. try the READ BEFORE YOU INSTALL .pdf document.

    Adobe

who knows what they're up to. in the Apple press announcement Steve Jobs mentioned that Photoshop will be ported to X in early 2002. Who knows about the rest of their apps. I presume that they are too far along in whichever version they are working on now to make the switch to Carbon/Cocoa...

    Apple Menu

Build 4K78 has the "System Preferences..." in the item in the Apple Menu list which does the same thing as clicking on the icon in the Dock. While you can't pick the individual pane you want, it does simplify the "control panel" experience by addressing it all in one spot.... no more...

    Apple Menu

you know, i completely forgot about that dialog. the only time i see it is when i hit the powerkey while it's sleeping when i think it's really off. I always clear the dialog as it came up by 'mistake' -- i guess i relegated that feature to a dialog error. my bad.

    OS X ON PC

the Admiral is prone to, eccentricities, since the War. What he means to say is, at this time Mac OS X is only available for the Macintosh platform. While it isn't ruled out to be ported to the Intel platform, it's unlikely to make the migration any time soon.

you force a powercycle on your machine? dude, that must wreck havoc on the poor thing. do as you feel you must, but as for me i'll click my way through.

    Apple Menu

The way the OS is organized, may take a little getting used to, but there has been a LOT of thought behind it and it's much more logical. Apple Menu: This now contains system-specific functions which can be accessed at any time, from within any app without having to click to the Finder...

    I gots the final. :)

Well, there are issues with both apps. In the PB i was forever unable to install OmniWeb -- it would crash bomb every time I would try to run it. On 4K78 I can get it to run, but with the (current) lack of CSS support, the sites that I frequent are disasters. My own personal site (...

    The first REAL crash

When your IE crashed you probably didn't need to reboot the entire machine. instead, use the Force Quit feature under the Apple menu. The Force Quit feature will bring up a screen showing all the apps that are running. Simple select the dead/dying application and kill it. If you get the...

    Noticed Quirks OS X

I've seen the forgotten poof on occasion (when you drag an item out of the dock, the little "poof" happens to make it go away. sometimes, it leaves the last frame of the animation onscreen) and OS 9 almost always complains if you shut down X without shutting down 9 first (you can shutdown 9...

    A little OS X Question

The install gives you the opportunity to erase it all and install nice and clean -- i don't know if it gives you the option of partitioning, though the manual says that if your drive is partitioned you can install X on one and 9 on the other. if you have Public Beta on that machine, you'll...

    I gots the final. :)

Granted, it's currently better than OmniWeb (which doesn't have CSS support so that app is a loser in my opinion) but that doesn't mean it doesn't suck. some of my reasons for considering IE 5.1 preview to suck: 1. when downloading files, IE grinds to a halt and can cause poor performance in...

    I gots the final. :)

I'm currently in a GM version, but perhaps not the final final final -- but here is what I have: 1. Pop-up folders are gone 2. Apps: pretty much the same as PB 3. The music player is gone -- going to be replaced with iTunes (which is a shame -- i really liked the player interface) 4...

Why I know pedantic mac users are a new phenomenon

I'm doing some work for Apple and needed some screenshots from OS X so they sent me a GM version to use. The first thing I did was to remove everything from the Desktop: the drives (through the Finder's preferences) and the shortcut to the Mac OS 9 Desktop folder-- having used the public beta...

    Mac OS X Annoucement

Apple officially announced the impending release of Mac OS X this weekend. In the press release was this little tidbit: Yes! Finally the ability to hear my music! Whoohoo!
