What can I use to "Disk Optimize" Panther and my other drives?

While we're on the subject, I've never defragged since going X... is there an app that does it? I would really like to clean things up for peace of mind.

    making a website

I think WebMonkey http://hotwired.lycos.com/webmonkey/ is the best place to start, and you can use any text editor.

Os 9 Ftp Server, File Server, Etc.

I was wondering, does Appleshare IP provide ftp services? I was going to say that the "hotline"-type servers are a convenient alternative to ftp if you want something thats free.

    Quark inserting tif images

I dont know if the new Quark resepects alpha channels that will let you use a grayscale mask to designate different levels of transparency, but heres the basic way: In photoshop, you will need to make a clipping path around the object. Its a vector-drawn outline of sorts that designates the...

putting a system on my ipod?

whew, System 9 is a piece of cake... a drag & drop affair... but there are many invisible files associated with OSX, and more complicated matters of hardware-specific integration... That being said, I would guess that whatever method you could use to burn a system to a CD, would be the same...

    system file mapping

well the command is to browse, by file creator code. So at first I configured browse(MOSS) and it opens netscape (in X), then browse(MSIE) would open IE in X, and browse(MMKE) would open safari in X. After doing the preferences change, it tries to open all the apps in 9, except Safari, which it...

    system file mapping

Well, I can do that, but there's another problem. I have an editor that will preview pages in a browser, but it's also a OS9 app. Its highly configurable (like every key shortcut, contextual colors and tons more) and I spent about a week getting it tweaked up nice on my OS9 system at work...

    system file mapping

Other than using "Open with" in the get info dialog, is there a registry that determines what file types are opened by which application?

Lord of the Rings - Twin Towers

All you gotta do is stop wasting those nights sleeping :p Yeah, I agree, theaters dont make money by the minute, but by the show, and a long show means fewer shows. But I dont want to sit in a theater more than 2 hrs either. I love DVDs. :)

Lord of the Rings - Twin Towers

Still no Tom Bombadill, but much more added stuff all the way through...and not just filler...things that make the story better.

Lord of the Rings - Twin Towers

Heh, on the extended version of FOTR there is a removed scene at the beginning, when the hobbits are very first setting out to leave the shire, and as soon as they are in the woods at dusk, they see this caravan of elves walking through in procession, leaving middle earth for good... its a...

Lord of the Rings - Twin Towers

RE: elves portrayed as ... I noticed that flavor too, but I wasnt too put off, since the elves are a second or even third seat race to the hobbits and humans.... they've had it good too long. :p

Screen Shots in other format than PDF

I have the same problem, Smash. Heree's my workaround: I use ctrl-apple-shift-4 to do my screenshots. That key command puts the image into the clipboard instead of pdf, so then I just paste it into goldberg or fireworks or whatever image app I wanted the screenshot in. There is another app...

So When Is Enough Enought Frames Per Second Anyway!!!!

back to the original question, I guess the advantage to having more fps (beyond the human rate of recognition) is that inevitably some game somewhere will slow it down with extra monsters, or features etc. So a higher baseline is desired to ensure it never dips down below the human recognition...

    aiff on ipod ?

If its an interview, I bet its in a mono, 22k format. Maybe the Aiff needs to be in 44k 16bit stereo to be considered a playable audio file? soundapp can convert it for you.

    Code editor - recommendation??

I've been messing with 'mi' since my last post quite a bit, and I must admit it is by far the most customizable program I've ever used. You can invent whatever code snippets you want for inserting in or around selections, assign them thier own key command (using the apple key, too!) and they...

Tips for freelance web design work?

I always decide how much is the minimum I want to make for the estimated amount of time, and charge that upfront, plus that again afterwords...because with freelance, sometimes you never get the 'after' payment. If you build-in specific things like flash, keep the .fla source files until all...

[FAQ] Mac OS on a regular PC

Drives me nuts too. brianleahy, I use right-click mouse commands all the time in OS9, too, I even found an "open with..." add on that absolutely rocks. Its always a shock when I get on a Windows machine and right-click to do something and people think Im a power user. :p
