And just to help you out: I have a G4 Sawtooth that I use with OS X. I can't tell you how it'll work with Tiger, as I bought a 1.4GHz processor upgrade for it, but I can tell you it ran 10.3 pretty well. Hmm, though I also have 1 GB of RAM installed, so I'm sure that helped me out a bit as well.

Just as an update to this, you can actually turn the dimming off in Tiger's Energy Saver preference pane. It's under the Options portion.

You can ignore the one's stating "Special" whatever (permissions or uids/gids). Think of them as the exceptions to the rule.

Try moving /Library/Preferences/com.apple.windowserver.plist somewhere other than /Library/Preferences (or delete it). You can do this by booting into single user mode, then type mount -uw / at the prompt. Then either use mv or rm to move or delete the plist file (whichever you prefer)...

If you want to set up a bunch of regular playlists, then you can make a smart playlist that lists those. It'll display a song more than once in that case. But it's easier to just make a regular playlist with the songs.

It would depend on what you're doing. I have my AirPort extreme card in my iBook on most of the time, and usually get somewhere around 3 hours on the battery.

There could possibly be a preference switch somewhere that will turn it on, then. I haven't played with Tiger at all, so I wouldn't know where to start looking. It's probably better that it's off, though. I mean, do you really want it that badly?

Hmm, have you let the battery drain completely, then let it fully recharge? You didn't say if you had done so, so I thought I would ask. If you don't do that every once in a while, the battery will think it has more of a charge than it really does, so it'll appear that it drains faster...

Did you prepend 0x to the digits when you pasted them? IIRC, you need to do that (i.e. 0x123456789a).

Hmm, I think the 40-bit key becomes a 64-bit key when hex encoded. Or maybe that's the ASCII encoding of the hex. Don't quite remember. :P

Heh, I have an even older one, a Sawtooth I bought in Jan 2000. This last December, I finally decided to buy a processor update, so now it's running at 1.4 GHz rather than 450 MHz. That put a lot of life back into it, I can tell you. ;) I bought the original Radeon when it came out. Still...
