I think did realise this but in desperation tried it regardless and it did behave differently. The imac is a 7.1 so I should be able to go to Mountain Lion if required. I’ll sort a few things before trying. At least this will prove or not if the stick is bootable

Thanks but think I’ve been through most of this. I’m assuming i now have a bootable drive but unsure as it wont boot from it. Is it the drive or the mac? ... could I test it on the imac running snow leopard? Going back to the non-starting (no screen) mac pro. I have had slightly different...

Will give this a crack. Appears to have worked, no error messages and looks very pro. Amazing how a third party piece of software appears to out perform an Apple equivalent! Bad news is problem mac pro is not booting from it. Insert drive on front panel, start up, on chime hold down option key...

After a spot of research on this error message it seems you should verify and scan the InstallESD.img Verifies OK, on completion of scanning I get error message Unable to scan InstallESD.img (cannot allocate memory)

Oh Sh!! Disk utility message again, as before midway through restoration Restore Failure Could not restore - Cannot allocate memory Is this a lack of Ram?

Just restoring on new stick, then time for dinner, then assuming restoration has gone ok I’ll give it a spin and report back

Right, sussed the right clicking and found the relevant .ESD file. Done restore process and I get this message, (Why isn’t my image uploading?) Stick is 8.2 Gb so should be plenty of room. Anyway message reads Restore Failure Could not restore - Cannot allocate memory What exactly does this...

Idea ... could I burn a disc (which I need to find), which would then show up on the disc utility window? ... which I could then restore from that to the stick? Just found a DVD-R, capacity 4.7Gb, Installer size needs at least 4.77Gb!

Firstly Assume you mean the unstuffed installer that’s been put on the Applications folder of the HD and not the .pkg icon? Only got a single button apple mouse, is there another way to open/extract from it?

All ok until i try to drag Lion install app from Applications folder to disk utility source box. It just bounces back! Should it appear in the list within disk utility to the left of that window? Have tried moving app to desktop but same thing happens. Works ok with destination usb drive but...

Hi all, Been a while since i’ve been here, 12 years to be precise, mac’s are pretty good most the time but occasionally ... Had this machine about 8 months, Mac pro desktop 2.1, running Lion, no problems whatsoever, except the following One small thing, probably not relevant, is that when...

    monitor compatibility advice

Well , thanks for lack of advice (suppose it was a fairly mundane post). For anyone who is interested I eventually made my own decision based on reviews etc and bought a Hanns-g 22" for just over the £100.00 mark and I think I made the right decision. Highly recommended, lovely picture at a...

    monitor compatibility advice

Right, my old Mitsi 20 inch crt screen has given up the ghost so I’m working on a Dell 17inch crt now, which is far too small for my graphics work. I want a good quality 20" to 23" flat screen to recover some desk space, probably from a manufacturer other than Apple. I have DVI-I (plus VGA...

    Dreamweaver MX ftp connection problem

Sorted, and as usual something fairly simple. I have a piece of software called Little Snitch, accessed through Prefs, the problematic D/W copy had a box checked Deny all connections, changed this to Allow connections and connects fine. I don’t know how this got altered, if it was me I...

    Dreamweaver MX ftp connection problem

Thanks, but i have Peachpit Press book on Dreamweaver MX (it’s not MX2004, although they look pretty similar). The site definitions window/wizard, which I found and use regularly, (I thought it must be some kind of hidden file) carries the same info it always has, and which has connected...
