    ssh timeout value

In the sshd config file on the server running sshd, uncomment or add the following line: KeepAlive yes This will allow sshd to re-establish a connection if it drops for a few secs - offten thats what terminates a ssh session. On my SGI, that file is in /etc/ssh/sshd_config

    mac -> television?

Hey, thats pretty slick! The remote control really adds to it - its not just a simple VGA --> composite converter, folks. Your users can select a movie, image, or music file to be played on their tv remotely, and its all over ethernet. Awesome. Now, when's the 802.11 version comming...

    Apple Pro Speakers Mod

UPDATE! I don't have a pair of apple pro speakers, and I didn't realize they don't include a sub. So, just do the above circuit to each speaker. Should be very cool :).

    Apple Pro Speakers Mod

Ed is right, they have had these out for quite a while. I've got two three-way units at my place. All they consist of is a three way crossover, isolation transformers on the inputs, diodes on the outputs, and plugs so you can connect christmas lights of whatever suits you. For the apple pro...

PHP / Apache Help... OS X Server

Post your apache config file dude. It would appear that apache hasn't been made aware that .php files are, in fact, php files.

    OSX BSD vs Linux

That all depends on what you wish to accomplish. With Mac OS X, you certainly can learn your way arround unix, the command line, and most admin stuff. And you can even use the x window enviroment. But, then again, there are some things about OS X that are different than Linux and other BSD...

Apple Design Awards - Your picks please

Couldn't agree more, hazmat - its certainly in Apple's best interests to promote their platform the way they have been. What developers need to see, however, is that Apple provides a starting place. An example, if you will. Is Apple's X11.app an end-all solution to running x11 applications in...

Apple Design Awards - Your picks please

I'll be honest, Safari, X11.app, and Mail.app deserve a huge award (although I don't think apple would award its self..). You can't beat what apple has done for this platform. I mean, what 'compatability' tools has microsoft released for windows? You can't even pop a mac floppy disk into a pc...

Apple Design Awards - Your picks please

Ok, as we all know, the Apple Design Awards are comming! Take a moment to read the FAQ and the Official Contest Rules, and post your picks! I'll start you off with a few things I considered but then realized wouldn't work out. 1) Applications like Blender, which present no intense...

    net send

I believe that if you install the real SMB unix tool, samba (http://www.samba.org/), you can do this fairly trivially. Its open source and free - I think there's a fink port of it as well.

    No guest read-access to forums?

My post here has little to do with macosx.com policy. I just wanted to point something out to ed. There was once the philosophy of giving with out expecting return. The best gift is the one way gift. For example, when you make soup for a homeless person, do you expect a gift in return? Do you...

Opinions needed: Cubase, Logic, or Protools

Thanks aled, thats the sort of 'heads up' I was looking for. I had heard from some other places that Logic was a more advanced program, but I didn't know to what degree. Apple's purchase of emagic is a definate plus, too. It looks like ProTools only works with ProTools hardware...

Opinions needed: Cubase, Logic, or Protools

Thanks for moving the thread, ksv. And thanks for your input, Andy. I'm setting my max spending limit at $500. Browsing the harmony central forums, general opinion is the plugins bundled with Cubase are junk compared with Logic. That's really all I have to go on at the moment. I obviously...

FDF Acrobat forms download as asp?

If you're downloading from a M$ Exchange server, lots of times the server will send the pdf file through a .asp cgi, and the browser will save it as such. Its been my experience that you can just rename the file and all works well.

Opinions needed: Cubase, Logic, or Protools

So, just purchased a Delta 1010 (rack mounted ten TRS input, ten TRS output, 96khz) to go with my Foxtex 812 (twelve channel, eight bus mixer). And now, as you may have guessed, I am looking for the software portion. Under Mac OS X, which of these programs runs the smoothest, and provides...

    Enable suEXEC? How?

The config files for apache are defaultly located in /etc/httpd. You might want to consider a gui apache configuration file editor, if you're not used to its format. I think Webmin can do this. Or is it webadmin.... Here's how I would enable suexec: From the file...

    Sendmail asks for password

By default, sendmail is a non-authenticated service. Its function is to send/deliver mail. It doesn't allow anyone to *check* their mail. sendmail version over 8.8 should verify that the email is from someone on the subnet or list of allowed subnets. Beyond that, once you're through the...

    A clarification please..

I don't think this is an os issue. Darwin does provide for a limit on open programs. But not on open documents/files. The HFS+ file system can support millions of files, too. I think your error lies in either these Java Server programs, or Java. Ask the creator of the program, maybe they'll know.
