Problems with iBook G4 Version 10.3.9

Repair permissions with Disk Utility (applications/utilities) It sounds as if you have a corrupt preference file (tho to be quite honest, I haven't been able to locate the right one yet) The answer is NOT defragging. You have one specific thing going wrong. And Mac OS X defrags itself to an...

Any way for a MAC OS X machine to be added to a windows domain?

After you unlocked the menu, you selected SMB/CIFS, and the configure button was still grayed out? Is the checkmark next to SMB/CIFS selected?

    MacBook and dual display

The terminology I always heard for the "zoomed in" desktop is Expanded Desktop, not Extended. In my world, adding a second monitor has always been called Extended Desktop. These days, the zoomed-in desktop is put in the universal access features, and is not used in reference to product specs ever.

    Router connections

It depends on what kind of router you have. Your basic Linksys router will show you a list of connected mac addresses via the web interface (192.168.1.1 usually), as is the story for most. I found this post at macosxhints for various ways to check if you're using an Airport Base Station. My...

    MacBook and dual display

"Extended Desktop" is used interchangably with "Dual Display". Extended Desktop means that when you move your mouse to the right side of the display (or however you have your displays set up), it goes to the next monitor, which is acting as an EXTENSION of the DESKTOP. i.e dual monitors. The...

Apple should NOT do business with BEST BUY

Sadly, I have to agree with the first post, slightly. VERY SLIGHTLY. I worked at Best Buy back in '97 right outta high school selling computers. During this point, Best Buy stopped selling Apple products (picked up my SWEET Performa 6400/180 on clearance + employee discount!) The general...

    Can't boot 10.4,Apple support stumped!!!

If you're using the system disc from a non-powerbook Mac, that could explain your problems. You might benefit from a firmware reset. boot your machine. Right after the startup chime, hold down Apple+Option+O+F to boot into Open Firmware mode. Once it's done, you'll have a screen with some...

how do i make a copy of my hard drive?

CCC supports these configurations: * Local (i.e., not over a network connection), HFS+ formatted partition or hard drive. * Mounted disk image. Cloning to a disk image will (obviously), not yield a bootable volume unless you use CCC to restore the image to a physical partition or disk...

How do I erase OS X Tiger from external drive?

Removing files from the drive shouldn't upset it's format at all, so you should be fine. Tho in the interest of being safe, Damrod's suggestion would be good to follow.

    Sound Quality: Computer Vs. iPod

It's also been suggested that the iPod uses some rather high-quality components for music playing, and I'd venture to say that it uses a higher wattage for the headphones than your Mac, tho I don't have the numbers to prove it.

    hard drive/music question-recommendations..and hello!

Getting an external drive offers several advantages: • You can get a lot more storage for a lot less money • Your standard external drive is a 3.5" hard drive that spins at 7200 rpm, while your standard 2.5" laptop drive spins at 5200 rpm. Makes a big difference. • You'll get...

Nope. Best advice I can offer is to install the updates that don't require a restart first (itunes, java, etc) and then run the combo updater and any leftover security updates after that.

dual monitor graphics card for G4

Your model of G4 (gigabit ethernet) came with one of two graphics cards, so we need to know which one. The simplest way to know if you can run 2 monitors is to look on the back of your tower, where the monitor connects, and see if there is another place to connect a monitor on that card. If...

    find all files

I'm not sure what funcionality you're looking for that wouldn't be offered by navigating to a folder via Finder. If you're used to searching for a folder, just type the name of the folder in Spotlight, and it will be found. If I'm missing the point, feel free to elaborate.

    3D display/interface (in air)

I'd like to say that's ridiculous...... perhaps even a very clever hoax, but some part of me just can't accept that it isn't real... They say you can hide this thing in things like a coffee table... I'd totally put it in an R2-D2.

    booting harddrive problem.

Two things that kill a hard drive fastest: 1) moving the drive suddenly while it's spinning 2) constant spinning up & spinning down. (wears out the drive motor) While you can't make a drive last forever, you can do a few things to ensure longest possible drive life: 1) In the Energy Saver...
