The restore discs should be fine. Where you run into legal issues is if you copy the discs from someone else.

In the Energy Saver tab of System Preferences, set the "Put the computer to sleep when it is inactive for:" slider to Never, then uncheck the "Put the hard disk(s) to sleep when possible" checkbox. You can leave the Display sleep option set. That should do it for you.

Also, always repair permissions while booted from your hard drive, using Disk Utility in your Applications/Utilities folder

You have several different symptoms here, and the common thread would be the logic board, which was known to go bad in iBooks. Go get yerself a free logicboard replacement. Any temporary solutions we could suggest here would be just that, temporary.

What happens if you open Printer Setup Utility directly from your Applications/Utilities folder? And when you say you ran Pacifist, did you actually locate the Printer Setup Utility on your install disk, and drag it to your Applications/Utilities folder?
