    OSX 10.0.4 Apps

Yikes, they are pretty high. I will just get the ram next week and see whats what. I already have a linux laptop that I use for movies so... The iBook is still a really nice machine. Its so solid and stable the addition of Unix is like a cherry on top. Better really, but... Thanks...

    OSX 10.0.4 Apps

...that is very disconserting news. Hm... I'll check around for a G4, just to get some ideas. I would have to sell the G3 first though; money, being what it is. Thanks for the heads up.

    OSX 10.0.4 Apps

In regard to buying a used box; someone gave me the ibook, so really all i would be purchasing is ram and the drive. If I could get a used iBook with all that already for what appears to be $200, then I would. However, I doubt I would get that lucky. I've been watching some videos with vlc...

    OSX 10.0.4 Apps

My daughter likes TuxPaint and I play mpg/avi on VLC. I should be ok. One more thing: I currently have a cdr and was wondering if there is a way to pull it out and put in a dvd player?

Weird question: Will Tiger run on the G3 500 with 648mb of RAM? Better yet, will it be usable?

    OSX 10.0.4 Apps

Awesome, thanks!! I tried out 10.3.9 Panther and everything is working like a champ. A little slow sometimes, but 128mb of ram will do that. I'm going to drop the 512 and see what happens next. Thanks!!!!!

    OSX 10.0.4 Apps

Thank you! You don't happen to know RAM specs as far as what to purchase? I am not sure I selected the right one on this URL: http://www.ramseeker.com/scripts/modelDetails.php I just selected iBook from the Mac dropdown. Perhaps this is correct? I didn't see a seperate listing for G3 or...

The more I look, the more questions I have. Sorry... I noticed 512MB was the last on the list. Is that my cap or are there two slots on the mobo?

    OSX 10.0.4 Apps

Thanks for all the feedback. I may order the RAM and get a copy of Panther/Tiger, but I'm really a Linux guy. One problem I had when I installed 6.06 Xubuntu there was a strange flickering/artifacting going down the screen in a column. That made me really nerveous. I may try another Ubuntu...

    OSX 10.0.4 Apps

9.1 fixed all my issues. The box runs like a peach. Browsing still sucks due to IE . Netscape and iCab; I am trying to find something better. I think there was a project for mozilla on OS9. Not sure though. I prefer the OSX front end, but OS 9 is working so...

I figured that was the case. What about 9.2? Would you recommend that OS over, or as opposed to, Linux.

    OSX 10.0.4 Apps

I am running OSX 10.0.4 on an iBook G3 500 and am having a hard time finding applications since everything that I come across (Abiword, OpenOffice, Firefox, Camino, VLC, etc) all require 10.3 or higher. The os is nice; very nice. It does me no good if I cannot run anything on it though. Can...
