Does this work on a mac?

You should be able to get an OEM version for much less. Search for OEM Windows XP. The license on the OEM version is a bit different. You won't be able to transfer the license to another machine, if I recall correctly. But it's completely legal.

Safari Zoom in at Mouse Click + cmd

You can use the scroll wheel and either CTRL, OPTION, or COMMAND to zoom in and out. You can turn it on in System Preferences in the Trackpad pane if you have a laptop. Click the checkbox next to Zoom and click the Options button to select the keypress you want. You can also turn on Zoom in...

Scrubbing, scrolling, click & drag all LAG terribly - what's wrong??

No CPU hogs based on that screen shot. How about disk activity? Can you click on the Disk Activity tab? My guess is that the disk is being thrashed (used heavily) by a malfunctioning process. Here's another possibility: I'm not a huge expert with Adobe apps, but I believe you can give...

Scrubbing, scrolling, click & drag all LAG terribly - what's wrong??

Click the word "CPU" in the CPU column to see what's hogging the processor. Could be Finder. MDS and MDSWorker are Spotlight, I believe, and some people have had problems with them using the disk excessively. It is very strange that you'd have lag problems on a Mac Pro.

    Hot Macbook

I second smcFanControl. I know others have mentioned it. I too run my fans a little faster to keep the machine a little cooler. And I don't notice any increased noise. It's very subtle. I'm hoping by running the fan a little faster the machine will last longer. Or the fan will die sooner. :O On...

    Computer crash

It's unable to find a driver, looks like an important system driver. I suspect a corrupt OS. You may need to back up your important data (pictures, etc., everything in your Home folder) and reinstall the operating system. Do you have the discs that came with your machine? Another possibility is...

CD Burner seems to not work anymore HELP

I've had MATSHITA drives fail in both my MacBook Pro machines. I also had burners fail in my iMac G4 and my Power Mac G5. These things don't seem to be very reliable, in my limited experience. LuriceO: In your case, since you're having the same trouble even after you replaced the drive, it...

If www.newegg.com sells to Europe, I'd check there or Amazon for hard drives if you decide to go that route. Remember that it must be a 2.5 " SATA notebook drive (9.5 mm). You'll want at least 320GB and 7200 rpm.

It really is quite easy to replace the hard drive yourself. You can get a 500 GB, 7200 rpm (fastest) 2.5 " notebook hard drive for less than USD100. What is that, about 70 pounds? You'll take the bottom off your MacBook, the user-detachable part, unplug the hard drive (1 plug) and plug in the...

    iphoto help will not load!

Wouldn't that be /Users/username/Photos and look for 'iPhoto Library'? Ksmak, I think looking for the above named file is an okay idea to verify it's still there. Then back it up. Think about how you'd feel if you lost all your photos. It happens. Before it happens to you, find a way to make at...

    Can't access OS/Drive

mrperez, I hope I'm not stating the obvious, but if you're not very comfortable opening working on laptops, replacing the hard drive is probably not something you'll want to do. You'd have to have someone do it for you. Good luck.

    Can't access OS/Drive

A failed bus would probably mean you'd need a replacement motherboard, and I'm sure there are quite a few spare parts floating around out there. But I'd imagine it'd be a bit pricey. I've been looking for a G4 laptop on eBay (US), and there are usually working and non-working Powerbooks up there.

Do you use Dropbox? A few of the people posting mentioned they were using it.

iWork is a very good suite. I've used Keynote for my job (teacher) for years. It's superior to PowerPoint in many ways, including visual quality and excellent themes. Pages is a solid word processor that does indeed export to Microsoft Word. I would use it more if I could set the default...

Oh, one more thing. The $29 Snow Leopard will update your MacBook just fine provided you have at least the minimum amount of RAM. 2GB would probably be best. Don't listen to them about the Mac Box Set. How do I know? Read it in Macworld I believe. They tested it. It's complete.

Tony, A couple points to hopefully clear up your confusion: 1.) When nixgeek mentioned hooking up an external DVD drive through USB or Firewire, he meant that some external burners connect via USB and some connect via Firewire. The USB burners are surely more common and should work fine. The...

Tonym911, Trying a different browser is a good idea. I don't even use Safari anymore. Mostly Firefox for me. I've been evaluating the Chrome beta. It's very good apart from occasional glitches, and I may switch. Just beware possible glitches with Chrome as it is still a beta version.

djackmac, I had an iMac G4. Had to have the DVD burner replaced under Applecare. That was good, though, because the original drive was 2x and the replacement was 4x. I myself replaced the drive in my Power Mac G5 under Applecare. They sent me the drive. I replaced the one in the 15" pre-unibody...

Suggestion: Consider buying the $29 10.6 Snow Leopard and an external DVD/CD drive. Installing Snow Leopard should replace any corrupted system files, and the install should be simple for you once you get an external optical drive. I would suggest looking at www.macsales.com for a compatible...

    Mac Keeps Crashing

Before suspecting bad RAM, I'd uninstall Parallels and reinstall. Parallels takes advantage of kernel extensions (.kext). From the dump above, it looks like Parallels kext may possibly have crashed your system. This happened to me a few times while using Parallels. I personally have found VMWare...
