erikstonge, It's 'fink' (not frink). If you installed XFree86 from source, after installing fink you need to install: And, don't forget before you start to run: 'fink selupdate-cvs' and then 'fink update-all' Good luck. Cheers... PS: I don't think it will...

    Terminal Terminology Help, Please

Continue... "In iTunes go to "Advanced/Export Song List..." and get yourself a text file listing of all the music that you have imported. If you're library isn't too stupendously large you might like to try exporting the whole thing. Yeah, give it a go! iTunes makes a text file with...

    FINK vs. compiling from scratch

ksignorini, I will say go with Fink 100% as I installed more than 450 packages with fink without mayor troubles. However, nothing stop you from doing both. Use fink and as an exercise compile some other things yourself. Good luck. Cheers...

    Fink Selfupdate

Koelling, ### su failed, exit code 1 Failed: Updating using CVS failed. Check the error messages above. Typically you get this error when a .info or .patch file has been modified, and its permissions are not what fink expects. Look at the complete log and search if there is a...

    fink install location

Yes, friend, you have reinvented the "wheel". Anybody can do that. but it seems there are reasons why they ask us to install in /sw. or maybe, shall we think that the fink developers are plain idiots (and yes WE are smarter). My advice, study the concept of fink a little longer...

    fink install location

Hi there, from the fink FAQ's: You are on your own. So, don't complain later or blame fink if problems come out. Fink doesn't install into /usr/local unless explicitly requested and doesn't require fiddling with /usr/bin/make or other system-provided commands. That makes it safer to use...

Where's the good UNIX ".cshrc" file gone?

Anything that's in a .tcshrc file could just be inserted into a .cshrc file and the former deleted. That whole pile of files in ~/Library/init/tcsh are really only "sourced" as necessary, so you can similarly throw any such commands into either your .login or .cshrc file. Seems weird...
