Poll - will OS X succeed?

Just something about the software: it's there. You can run a lot of stuff under the Classic environment so that's not a problem. I'm still convinced that Aqua is more of a hindrance than a help in its current form (of course, I might be off base on this one, but I've rarely been wrong about...

Poll - will OS X succeed?

Since I triggered this thread, I feel compelled to respond [again] One observation I have to make [again] is that from the bulk of the posts here most people here are early adopters, OS experimenters (as shown by the # of Linux users), & Mac fans. Don't get me wrong, I *love* the...

Poll - will OS X succeed?

Just one more comment: to be adopted by current Mac OS 8/9 users & by programmers you have to have the framework (build it and they shall come). I'm not convinced there's enough of a framework to justify users switching, although the switch for programmers ought not be too great (Metroworks ;)...

Poll - will OS X succeed?

The reason I threw Windows is that Mac OS X is a "final" release product, and, as such, ought to be compared to other final releases, regardless of what Apple would like us to compare it to, and pretend that it is [not] a the real public beta. I think it's going to be really hard to win over...

Poll - will OS X succeed?

I know most people on here fall into a few broad categories, possibly including (1) early adopters, (2) *nix fans, (3) those who like the multitasking, (4) the Aqua GUI fans, and (5) curious by-standers (like me). But, more importantly, will Apple succeed in fixing the interface and the...

Default Mac OSX user account name & password problem

Hello, when installing OS X Apple's installer wanted me to fill in one of those user registration forms (as I am sure everyone had to!), so, as per usual I refused to provide any real information (you should NEVER be forced to provide info you don't want known by a corporation). Anyway, now I...

    Changing screen size/resolution in "Settings"

I already tried selecting the "Display recommended resolutions" without success. All it does is activate the 640*480 screen size and maybe allow me to select one or two more refresh rates! I need a way to replace the Displays setting control panel somehow.

    Changing screen size/resolution in "Settings"

Hello, I have a 17" monitor (KDS Avitron AV7-TF -- Sony Trinitron tube)), capable of displaying (at max)1280x1024@60Hz, 1152*870@75Hz, and 1024*768@85 Hz. BUT, I can't use 1152*870!!! AAAAARGH. My card (the Blue & White G3 16 MB ATI RAGE 128) is quite capable of displaying all those sizes and...
