also. instead of PrimoPDF, try http://sourceforge.net/projects/pdfcreator/ it's opensource and doesn't give pop-ups to users (we also distributed Primo, then had people complain. i'm tryna convince our team to roll-back Primo and replace it with PDF Creator : ))

ok. everyone obviously missed what i said. I have Panther (10.3) running on my parents iMac 266Mhz with 288Mb RAM and while it isn't a speed demon, it runs fine.

um. why would server not support something. it is client + extras.

I believe (could be wrong) that Photoshop can utilize dual CPU macs, if you load an extra plugin (it came on both my G4 (OS9..) and my new G5 in a folder in the Applications folder.

my iTunes won't play MPEGs. qt movies, fine. i was hoping it would play any QT supported format.. i have LOTS of music videos in MPEG1 (some MPEG2) and was hoping iTunes might replacee BitPlayer for watching them..

yes. that is correct. and you can't buy 10.1 any more. the updates are free, but only work within a major revision number, eg: 10.2.8 update works on 10.2.x.. you may be able to pick up a copy of panther cheap now that tiger is out. i have panther on a 266mhz imac, and it runs fine : )

maybe resetting the PRAM will make it search for a display at boot??

ok. sorry. maybe i should have been more specific: most consumer/gamer video cards don't do encoding. Also, apple seems to be very much aimed at not putting "special" hardware requirements on authoring, hence it's 100% Software encoding engine in thinks like Compressor etc..

that too. but we're talking about ENCODING don't forget, not DECODING. the GPU will help decode, so you can watch it, but I doubt it will help with encoding. a faster GPU doesn't help with DVD MPEG2 encoding, does it?? (that is not a rhetorical question)

of course it'll get faster. when you buy a newer computer. when QT7 is more optimised. when CoreVideo is more optimised. or. you may get 15 FPS when you sell your soul to satan to get a Quad-[Dual-core]-Processor G6 XStation performance workstation with 4 RAIDed 800Gb SATA IV 15000RPM disks...

Um. if you have several G4s with CD-RW, why not do a network install? or simpler, use Disk Utility to create an image of a newer machine with Tiger, and then "Restore" it onto the others via LAN/FW??
