You can indeed reboot into 9.1 and use AOL. They are also in the process of porting the current version to OS X according to other posts and other OS X pages. The AIM for OS X is already out in beta. It is a little sluggish in certain respects and feature deprived, but it is a good, quick...

    DVD?

Mac Guru is right on the money about the release of the DVD software for OS X. I have no idea about the CD-R stuff, but the DVD player particualry has been held up because of the Consortium and Intellectual Property issues.

    Give me a BREAK

AdmiralAK, Norton 5 will screw you up even worse then the install of OS X. For whatever reason the installl makes a mess of the HDD. I used the Norton SystemWorks CD to boot and run Disk Doctor and Speed Disk. You can also use the native Disk Utility to do some fixes but no native defrag as...

    PATCH

Everyone should head to a ffew of the other OS X sites out there and check out the information about the OS X update. 4L5 is a pre-release internal update. It does have problems. DO NOT install this update if you don't want to have to reinstall your system when the real one comes out.

    Speed?!

I am running OS X on three different machines. Below from slowest to fastest is the rundown. Overall I find OS X exhilerating to use, in fact, I can't stand having to reboot into 9.1 to use certain Apps and try and get out of them as quickly as possible to come back to X. G3/266, 192MB RAM...

    Changing Application Opacity

Okay, so, if you're not careful you can do a lot of damage, but you all need to stop being afraid of the command line. There are two somewhat long process for changing the opacity of the Terminal window, when it can be achieved very easily. Open Terminal At the prompt type defaults...

Connect to a server on a network!

Have you gone to the GO menu and selected Connect to Server? My internal network is divided by a Firewall and I haven't figured out how to cross-connect the two subsections, but I can still connect to the file server/mail server by entering it's DNS name or IP number, then OS X remembers it...

I like most of the new aces, but the angry red face should come back. I really like the new look, overal that is. What about the rest of you?

To intel or not to intel

My original take on this subject was that as OS X was to be more of a main stream operating system, that it would make sense for Apple to port it over to PC machines. However, after hearing some of the things said by posters here and in other places, I would have to say that my original stance...

    Display Settings

Even though I have no true idea exactly which file or where within that file, I am pretty sure that all of your preferences are stored in users/"you"/Library/Preferences. Where "you" is replaced by your user directory. There are also a few system wide preferences stored in /Library/Preferences/.

    dock orientation

Obviously, I was very wrong in assuming OS X was not dual monitor aware. I apologize for my mistake. Thanks for correcting me without being too derogatory... LOL BTW, can you all tell me how you have your monitors set-up. I mean, do you have two video cards? Or is there one special card...

    dock orientation

Don't quote me on this, because I've never used dual monitors, although i'd like to, but i don't think that OS X is dual monitor aware yet.

    Alias in the doc?

Kinniken, Please, elaborate on what you are trying to do, because if I understand it correctly, you may be making one step you don't need. As I have it setup i created a new folder under my users/home/Documents folder and named it for whatever was going to be placed there (for instance...

    Fonts! How do they work?

I have the same question as MrMac. Do the Fonts take system resources, as they do under Windows or Mac OS 9.x? or, are they looked at more like a process and show up in the Fonts menu, but until need or used they don't waste resources?

    YES, DOCK IS MOVEABLE !!!!

This hack is great, i love it, BUT... Does anyone know how to make the orientation and pinning changes permanent? I did the hack as an admin level user so it stays no matter how I log in, but, regardless of user, you can make oreint and pin changes just for the current session, as soon as...

    YES, DOCK IS MOVEABLE !!!!

I'm confused... 4k78 is the gold master for OS X and 4L5 isn't official yet, so don't you mean anything before 4K78? from what i understand, though, if you are using PB you can do the same thing to the dock with the following code: defaults write com.apple.Dock orientation right or -...

    OS X 4L5

First, this build never came off of Software update. it is an internal only Build with a few of the enhancements and new services to come in the first upgrade. Second, the above link to MacCentral isn't sufficient to believe as to the reliability of the Update some of you are installing...
