iTunes quits playing at random times

I used to get that to happen a LOT with iTunes 1.x but haven't seen it with 2.x. Sorry, can't help ya though.

    Speedier Window Openings

Wrong. This has nothing to do with and will not speed up opening new windows. Compression doesn't kick in until after the window has ben drawn. This decreases RAM use and may speed things up because your disk will not be polled for data as frequently, but the hack will not speed things up...

How do I remove/uninstall dead Services?

It's perfectly safe to delete the LS* files. In fact, deleting them and letting them be rebuilt is a common solution to some problems.

FINDER TWEAK app speeds up finder significantly!

What a joke. This guy just made a "renice" script for users that are deathly afraid of the terminal.

    RealPlayer for OSX Alternatives?

themacko is correct... for the most part. However, the ffmpeg project has reportedly been able to convert real media files. http://ffmpeg.sourceforge.net/ Some smart folks over at the MacNN forums had some success a while back...

    Q3A Problems

The difference it that your monitor may be detected properly in OS9 whereas it may not be in OSX. Thus, OS9 can determine the valid refresh rates and Quake 3 wil avoid those. If OSX doesn't know the right Hz's, Quake 3 will use the highest available rate your graphic card can do. Mine, for...

Sorry, but there is no "easy way" now to add contextual menus.

    Divx: avi2mov and divosx tool.

...to combine the two movies. Once you've registered, simply open up the two files in the QuickTime Player, select all of one, copy, go to the beginning of the other one, hold option and select "Add" from the Edit menu (the option key changes Paste to Add). Save. Done.

menu bar clock / classic clock overlap

eh... could you take a screenshot for us? Back in the pre-GM builds of 10.1, the Classic clock also drew over the OSX menubar. This was especially distracting and problematic with the new right-hand menu additions. In fact, a couple times the window manager would crash, sending me to the...

Mouse dissapears when using iTunes 2.0.3 Visualizer

Does the cursor disappear completely? Or does the white border around it turn black? If the latter, then that's a well known bug. To bring the cursor back to normal, do something thta'll force the cursor to change and return to the standard arrow. For example, slide the cursor over the resize...

Well, then you're SOL unless you can find someone to give you a Toast image or you are are willing to shell out $20 to Apple.

    .dmg files!??! help!!!!!

Can't you just borrow the update CD from your friend? Or have your friend make a Toast image of it? Better yet, why don't you pick up a free CD yourself? You mentioned using a University computer. Surely the campus book store has a computer section. I'm pretty sure the 10.1 update CD's are...

    Q3A Problems

It's probably setting the refresh too high and your monitor is going out of sync. The next time you launch Q3A, bring down the console with the ` key (well, that's the default key for it) and enter this command: seta r_maxDisplayRefresh "75" or use some other number you know is within...

    Apps seen as documents

FYI, that's not a document icon; that's the default application icon. Anyway, my guess is that your launch services may be corrupted. Go to your home/Library/Preferences folder and delete the three files that start with LS. LSApplications, LSSchemes, and LSClaimedTypes... I think. Then log...

found this by accident: minimize egg.

Steve Jobs wanted a way to really show off the OSX GUI at MacWorld. He's used this trick for a year and a half on stage already. Talk about old news.... sheesh! :p Here's another "feature" (more like a bug) with minimizing and restoring. Check out what happened to the drawers on my window...

Why does my fan not turn off in deep sleep?

I've been arguing with Apple about this since the Public Beta. Unfortunately, we SCSI card users are left out in the cold with regard to "deep sleep." Apple blames the card for not being low-power safe, yet the card allows OS9 to go to deep sleep just fine. The only solution is to...

OH MAN! Escape Velocity resources in OS X!

No no no... it's not an OS X resource editor, it's a resource editor. All resources, even those in Escape Velocity. Resources themselves have nothing to do with OSX. They've been in forked files since HFS first arrived with the Mac. ResKnife is simply meant to be a native OSX replacement of...
