It really is a crime that Apple has let this go on for such a long time.

Well you're right it probably wouldn't cost too much but there is a bit more work involved then whats indicated in your post. Yes first off you gather the data, but if you want an installer for the appropriate firmware for the lucky machine getting OS X you must first write a program that...

More than 3 minutes to boot Panther?!

Hmm, were you bound to a directory server at any point? If you were bound to one open directory access and check your ldap settings, if there are any not local authentication paths, etc. turn them off.

R&D Dollars...they don't really want to spend money on something that they don't need to spend it on so they probably wont unless Mr. Smith has a large following of 400Mhz G3 iMac users, and even then...

It really is a crime that Apple has let this go on for such a long time.

Fryke you make a good point and maybe people should read the ReadMe files but in reality how many people actually do that? Would it really hurt to add an extra line to the system requirements that reads "Firmware XXX.X". Yes ultimately it is the end-users responsibility to read the manual but...

    Mac to use Intel Chips!

Well altivec is a vector unit, the FPU on the G5 is exceptional. The ALU(the int unit) on pentium processors is far better but their vector unit(SSE2) sucks big time. so yes a P4 w/ altivec would certainly be nice. To respond to the licensing thing wine is still around and I'm pretty sure its...

    Mac to use Intel Chips!

Well first off if apple is smart they'll try to integrate wine for some basic compatibility with winbloze stuff and second apple does have a $500 computer, its called the mac mini

No you just keep talking about it and we all get it, also this thread has nothing to do with cell it has to do with Intel, specifically the P4. What I would like to see are some xbenchs.
