    Ordered my iMac

Nice. I ordered the same config as symphonix. I can't wait to get it but I'm thinking that I may want to throw another 512Mb DIMM in there. I want to stick with really high quality stuff because I would like to get the best performance possible from it. Anybody have any suggestions, I...

    Is Linux faster than OSX?

Hang on just a second here, I would like to see some good benchmarks here. I know for a fact that YDL runs quicker on my 300Mhz biege G3(OS X.2.8). Even in the console there is a noticable difference in the speed at which processes run. Now I've also noticed that YDL Vs. Panther, or maybe its...

    iMac G5

I just ordered mine: 17" Display, 1.8Ghz, 512Mb Ram, 80Gb SATA, Integrated bluetooth and wireless Keyboard. I also bought a nifty little HP 5740 with $99 mail-in rebate and the printer was only $99. It ships in 3-4 weeks though and with apple 3-4 weeks == 5-6 weeks. Oh well I'll have it soon...

Development version of Mandrake Linux 10.1 alpha PPC

Use YDL, my experience with mandrake on PPC has sucked...It had some initial driver problems and it was slow, not nearly as complete of a distro as YDL. Though this does seem like a good thing I will still remain skeptical of mandrake and their dedication to the PPC platform.

    Is Linux faster than OSX?

Congrats, just my experience with YDL vs. OS X is that YDL can do more with less resources. It doesn't seem to require as much ram or need to page into and out of swap space as often making it a little zippier.

What are your needs, if you dont need a G5 then don't get one. I f you need the power than do. If its for browsing the web and word processing than you'll probably be happy with a powerbook. After all it is more mobile and you can bring it to your classes. Just wait to see what steve has in...

Yeah man I hear ya on that, that arm is really versatile it would be stupid to get rid of that but hey maybe apple will inovate something better and more versatile, they seem to do it every time.
