Which is the better Word processor - Pages or AppleWorks

I'm really confused here. I used to use ClarisWorks and went kicking and screaming to Office. ClarisWorks had something even Word or any other office suite can't touch today - integration between types of documents. Text, tables and graphics in a single document without all the hassle. It just...

    Apple Trademark "Numbers"

Oh, I wasn't suggesting that. Just supporting rich clients over web apps for business (digression from the main topic).

    Apple Trademark "Numbers"

As a user of all office apps all day long for 10+ years I can tell you what I need and where I see countless people stumble in terms of being productive - real integration between text, spreadsheet, presentation, database, chart (Visio) and drawing/graphics. Office "seamless integration" is a...

    does anyone USE spotlight?

Viro - that is exactly the way it is saving me so much time! Though I have no idea what VC theory and divergence are about! :)

    does anyone USE spotlight?

Absolutely it is not perfect, but for a first release it has changed the way I use my computer and I think I have something of an extreme situation. 5 drives at 100 gb short of a terabyte.

    does anyone USE spotlight?

I use it all the time. Emails and docs in particular. I have emails in a zillion folders over the past 10 years and lord knows I often am looking for a message or thread when I can't remember the person's name. It is GREAT for this type of thing (I don't know who it was, but we emailed about...

is it wise to buy a Mac now?

Ah, this reminds me of the old days with the then new PowerPC. My old trusty Quadra 660AV was useful for some time after the new PowerMacs came out - in fact, it was BETTER than the new PowerMacs for some time. I'm sure that won't happen this time. Does anyone remember how Office for the Mac ran...

preventing iDVD ejecting disk after burning

Hey laserheart, I still can't find anything perfect for you, but how about these? http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/system_disk_utilities/keyboardandmouserecorder.html http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/system_disk_utilities/automize.html We must use technology to win the never...

preventing iDVD ejecting disk after burning

You know I had the same thought/experience (old house!) and I just don't think there is a way. Then again, as a semi fix, all you would need is to automate a single F12 keystroke some time in the middle of the night that you know would be after your disk is burned. I have QuicKeys and this is a...

    Buy Tiger or iWork?

Hey fuzz! I have both and I can say with 100% certainty, TIGER! Pages is really disappointing. It lacks interesting features and its usability is not up to Apple standards by a long shot. I feel like I wasted my $ on iWork while Tiger with Spotlight has changed my life. Dashboard too. P.S. I...

Apple - two words to consider: "Home Automation"

You guys are both right. Apple certainly must be thinking about this and planning? No? I'm hoping they come up with something really slick. You know, a new approach that nobody else thought of. Sure, the new XBox and PS3 will do similar things, but will it be easy and/or elegant to use? I think...

Apple - two words to consider: "Home Automation"

The thread that won't die... Why, because the world is moving ahead on home media and integration while Apple's digital hub strategy seems (IMO) incomplete and not evolving. Latest? Just read a NYT article about the new X Box which will double duty as a media server...

    How would you rate Tiger?

I'm enjoying it. I'll say 8 overall. Spotlight has saved me hours already searching my 5 drives, but I think it needs work and more options to be useful in all search situations. Speaking of search, it isn't the only way to find things. I mean, some people do still navigate through...

I shut down an eBay scam!

I thought I would add to this thread rather than start a new one (got to keep the site admins happy!). I notice I get these kind of emails for sites/companies I often deal with soon after I deal with them - eBay, PayPal and most recently my bank (got a phish pretending to be my bank just today...

Any way to wake up a Mac with a shared printer?

Well, outside of this forum there seems to be a lot of people asking about this. Turns out this works: http://www.coriolis.ch/article18.html Will not wake up a computer connected via Airport though.

Any way to wake up a Mac with a shared printer?

Seriously, there has to be a way. We have a Mac running Tiger upstairs with a shared printer, but when it asleep printing to its shared printer from another Mac won't wake it up. Someone has to walk up stairs to it, wake it up, then go back downstairs to print. We get plenty of exercise around...

All I can say, is avoid HP. Perhaps it isn't fair, but I have had or witnessed nothing but problems with them - plus they are butt ugly.

    Tiger first impressions

I don't think you should be angry at yourself at all - you are a user with valid uses and needs for your Mac (God, that sounded like Dr. Phil). Seriously, Apple just can't rewrite the rules and assume the old system and search options didn't provide value for users. Again, I am betting you will...

Safari will not run for me on 10.4 - Help!

I'm sorry others are having the same problem, but glad (in a small way) that at leasy I was not alone and posted a panic stricken thread. I have to say a clean install was the way to go for me though. In a way I am much better off.
