You could try to purchase OS8 install CD, or better yet OS9, and do a fresh reinstall of the system. If the extension for the CD drive is gone, I am not sure how to get it back with out a install disk, unless the extension ended up in the disabled extension folder, if there is one.

Epox, it sounds as if your have possible logic board problem. If you have purchased the extended Apple Care warranty, you need to give them a call. Or have a certified technician look at your PB. If you have all ready checked to ensure no ram or airport card, etc are lose.

I have the PPC version, and have not experienced that problem, g/re/p. I think the app is universal anyways.

I don't want to answer for Fryke, but the quality of the iBook is excellent, from what I heard. In my opinion you are not going to have a useless G4 computer is a couple of years.
