    Subscribing to podcasts

It just requires someone to write an extension, which overall is pretty simple. Have any programming experience?

    Dual-Core PowerPCs?

The only doubt I have is the "near" part. I suppose it depends on how you define "near future"

    Cherry OS in 3 Days

Er, essentially the same people that would use Virtual PC, albeit a much more limited audience? Anyone testing multiplatform compatibility (let's say I'm a Windows web page developer that wants to see how a page looks on Safari), people who have to run Mac-only programs and have no access to...

    Cherry OS in 3 Days

I'm probably the exception - I was convinced by the software. The overall platform is a major draw - the standardized hardware, the excellent styling (the PM G5 definitely wouldn't have been as big a draw as the PM G4, style-wise, but whatever), but if the boxes were running a (hopefully more...

Now that G5 iMacs have been received...

You know, regarding the G5 iMac performance... The entire system seems to bottleneck a LOT more when paging to disk than I see with my G5 desktop, which seems to mean that having enough memory is even more important. Also, found that mismatched speeds of memory in the DIMM slots seems to...

    Any news on MacWorldSF?

The G5 iMacs are just out, I'd say it's a good time if you need a new machine, and that's the kind you need. If you need a Powermac-class machine (and not the "low-end" one), your guess is as good as mine.

Now that G5 iMacs have been received...

Did I mention that I love this iMac G5? =) I just can't get the price for my G4 that I want - once the iMacs came out their resell value went way down! Darn you Apple! ;-)

Apple Website A Poor Online Experience?

No, they didn't trademark Doors because it would have been difficult to trademark without purchasing the estate of Jim Morrison. "Windows", however, was only a commonly-used term to describe an interface type already in use by several other competing products, including ones by Apple and Xerox...

    Colour iPod (merged thread)

I *would* like it for tha additional aesthetic reasons... And it kills be to say this, but, that's it? It might be nice every so often ('specially around the holidays), but I was already able to transport my pictures around. If I want to show photos, either it will be on a desktop computer...

Apple Website A Poor Online Experience?

I've always thought the site was visually very appealing (scores big in my book), but overall quite mediocre - nowhere near the best, but far from the worst. I'm really not a fan of the online store

    what happened to VirtualPC7?

Er, the 5 lb heatsinks and 7 fans on my G5 at work aren't tiny... ;-) But, yeah, Intel's finally being forced to come to terms with their clock rate scaling issues because it's just gotten ridiculous in the PC world. The next gen of Pentiums will be a lot more Pentium-M like than Pentium 4...

Apple store is down... -> PowerMac G5 Single 1.8 GHz

I hate to say it, but $500 *is* a premium anymore. Fine, then charge $550 or even $600. Even then you'll see systems fly off the shelves. People just don't seem to understand that Apple's niche cannot last forever. 1&1/2% market share just isn't going to cut it - we're going to see more...

Apple store is down... -> PowerMac G5 Single 1.8 GHz

Not to mention, at its heart, a system that does a pretty darned good job of running Office, iPhoto, Mail, Mozilla/Safari, and, well, OS X. ...Because they'd sell like **hotcakes**. Users can get onto Mac for $500? There's no way Apple would be able to keep up with demand.

I still won't be satisfied unless they put out a $500-or-so "headless eMac"... It would just be a good idea for so many reasons...

iPod as a hard drive for a Treo

Well, in his example, read "PDA" instead of phone, as the Treo is very much a PDA first (it's a palmpilot), and phone second (as opposed to most "Smartphones", which are phones first). Assume that it's intended to be a mini-computer, with memory expansion, connectivity to external devices, etc...
