    Megahertz Myth...

All current Macs have built-in Airport antennas and a spot for the Airport Card. I doubt the Dull has such already-there support for wireless networking; the best it can do is either an external device through ethernet (I assume that Dulls currently come with ethernet standard, but probably not...

    Chimera programmer feeling way down...

I guess my frustration in this discussion stems from two things: 1) I don't use tabs, and many others don't too, so saying that a browser is not good until it has them (which some here practically did say) is just plain silly, and 2) solrac seems to ignore the fact that this is a text based...

    "iOffice" almost confirmed

Um, except at school I don't use Microsoft apps. Sure, I have Office on my Mac (that I got free legally through Penn State), but I never use it. I have no need for it. And I am sure that there is something to this "iOffice" idea, because it makes too much sense. Macs need a preloaded...

    Airport Extreme

The frequency compatibility of 802.11g and 802.11b has a lot to do with why Apple went with 802.11g and not 802.11a.

    Chimera programmer feeling way down...

Ignoring solrac's destruction of hundreds of years of philosophical theory and logical construction ( ;) ), I will say this- Tabs look cool and sound cool, but I find them clumsy at best to use. I am used to switching windows through the menu that comes from right-clicking the dock menu, but...

First post with Phoenix for MacOSX!

Don't forget OmniWeb's banner ad blocking! Safari at least handles pop-ups, but blocking banner ads can make the fast even faster! and make web pages look less offensive.

IBM and PowerPC 405 linux based PDA's

Don't expect iPod to become a graphic-intensive video-playing PDA. While it may gain more PDA features as extras, one of the key selling points of the iPod is the 10 hour battery life. If you have the chip handling color graphics and video playback, expect a hit to battery life. I don't think...

    "iOffice" almost confirmed

iDVD is free on machines with a Superdrive, at least whatever version that was there when you bought the machine. The "not having as a free download" is done for the same reason that 10.1 was not downloadable (even though many got the upgrade CD for free one way or another): it is huge. Too huge...

    What Ink could be for...

lurk- I totally understand... and you're right, the vector is important. However, I never said this 'handwriting OCR' would be perfect. Don't most OCR programs let you go in and do corrections? And since Ink lets you add commonly used words to a list, to customize it, and Junk "learns" to work...

    "iOffice" almost confirmed

I doubt it will be called "iOffice" since Keynote is not free, and the other apps (if they come) most likely will also not be free, and all the iApps are free. However, this could be done in conjunction with a new version of AppleWorks that is a little better integrated (but still just a...

    What Ink could be for...

I have been thinking a lot recently on what Apple was thinking when they brought Ink to Jaguar. It seems to work well, especially when you adjust the settings in its PrefPane, but it isn't all that usefull, as typing is better. Many claim that it is a hint at tablet Macs, but I don't think I see...

    New powermacs?

last year I guess was the year of the consumer desktop (iMac, eMac), and this year it is the year of the notebook, so we see great new PowerBooks, possibly iBooks too later on, so my guess is they are going to do big stuff with towers in 2004. Interesting that the new 64 bit PowerPC processors...

    Megahertz Myth...

First: I have OS X running on my 2 year old Cube 450. It works great! It's stable! It hasn't crashed since 10.2! It only did so once in 10.1! Now I know plenty of people who tried out XP on similarly aged PC's, and went back to 98. Why? Because XP was both less stable and less functional on a...

I would like to applaud Apple

So write your own DivX app, isn't DivX an underground standard anyway? I only hear about it in reference to illegal downloading of movies and music videos. While I'd love to say I can do it (and VersionTracker has apps for it) I have no use for it. First of all, I have never heard of Fifa...

Appleworks 7 (or whatever it may be named)

Perhaps you are right. Your point about Apple both selling Appleworks and giving it away is reflected in iDVD as well. However, I still believe that Apple will release more Office-like component apps like Keynote (the full, the only) priced much more reasonably than M$ Office, and perhaps turn...

Appleworks 7 (or whatever it may be named)

So they redo Appleworks (think investment $$) and charge less for it, and then invest more $$ into a better, pro version and charge the same as keynote? I don't think so. If anything, they will make components like M$, but offer them cheaper separately than M$ does, and people can pick and...

    new build of safari released

Not necesarily... that just means that if you continue to use the beta after the final is released, anything that goes wrong is not Apple's responsibility... including any bugs you find. Essentially they will not support an unlicensed product, and why should they support the beta if the final is...

How many of you are using Safari?

You should have done checkboxes. I use OmniWeb, Chimera, Safari, and Internet Explorer depending on what is important at that time. I find Netscape and mozilla pointless b/c of chimera, and I have no interest in iCab or Opera... neither has impressed me in any way.

    MacWorld SF...what to expect?

There are a bunch of ways to do that already, and most work great.

    MacWorld SF...what to expect?

Unless they have nothing better and don't want to ruin the surprise.
