Manually change Resolution in a pref file?

LCD screens have a fixed resolution. Because of this, no laptop screen will ever go beyond the max resolution offered. As far as reducing the res goes, it is only emulating a lower res while still using the same # of pixels. That's why it does not work.

    iBook G4?

Why not? My Cube has only OS X on it, as I wiped the drive for 10.1, and while I have OS 9 on my external drive, I did not need it for installation (it was not plugged in). The only thing I can think of for being unable to only install OS X on a G4 is if it is an older one and needs a firmware...

    iBook G4?

Anyone who's been here long enough knows that!:D :p Anyway, thank you for bringing facts into the argument. My post was all opinion, but I wasn't arguing with anybody anyway - just pointing out that any argument that the G3 might be a little better in a Mac than the G4 is wasted breath (or...

    iBook G4?

Apple will most likely never step back when it comes to their technology. While the G3 may have the clock speed advantage, more and more apps (especially UNIX ported apps, ported under Jaguar) are AltiVec-enhanced. And, going back to G3 or releasing G3's @ faster clocks than G4's would be a...

    iTunes 4!

I LOVE Audio Hijack! It let me rip "School of Hard Knocks" from my Little Nicky DVD, and get a cool sound effect from a Super Nintendo game called "Zombies Ate My Neighbors." It has so many potential uses, even for iTunes => Echo + Reverb = all music sounds live!

I really want to volunteer, but my job kind of makes it a conflict of interest.

AMD's Newest Licensee Is Officially Apple!

This is true- the latest (though not that recent now) release of info on IBM's next PowerPC processor, though 64bit and with major changes, has a vector unit which supposedly is compatible w/ AltiVec. However, Apple has invested too much into promoting true RISC processors and the PowerPC, and...

Meet the Board of Directors... who are they and what do they have to do with us?

I agree that the stores is at least one of the best ways to fight the problem. I think that is why the Apple Retail stores have done so well, despite the usual doom predictions. Most people I've met, once they give a current Mac running Jag a test drive, love it. Even with a (supposedly)...

Meet the Board of Directors... who are they and what do they have to do with us?

Yeah, I though I read that like a month or 2 ago. I think your second problem is more on target, and the third is just an example of why the second is a problem. People are used to computer companies marketing specs, technical details, with this fuzzy idea of actually using those specs pushed...

    What's ahead for Apple?

try dragging a picture into an iChat window. I did, and it became the background of the chat.

Does jaguar crash more than OSX.1 ?

I know my Cube has yet to crash (at least kernel panic) in Jaguar; on the other hand for two weeks I was working on an iBook, and the second to last day it had a kernel panic on opening word. Man, I am so hooked on that machine, I wish I hadn't had to give it back. Maybe I'll buy one at the King...

    Whats Ya Style?! ...Musically?!

I listen to: Blackthorn, Seven Nations, Great Big Sea, Toy-Box, Aqua, Fatboy Slim, Michelle Branch, Papa Roach, The Mamas & The Papas, Styx, Moody Blues, and many more. To see what I have, go to: http://www.personal.psu.edu/users/r/a/rac234/SongList3.html Be warned: I have over 5000 songs in...

    10 more Apple Stores!

That would be me, I got the job. Unfortunately I am not permitted to comment on whether or not the store will open on the 9th;I believe I can say that that was what I was told before I was an Apple employee, and that I have since been informed that many unannounced projected openings have been...

Will Apple (circa 2010) be a "computer" company any more?

I don't think your poll covers enough... and there certainly should be an "Other" option, since Apple is good at 're-inventing' things, including itself and the computer industry. Perhaps they will start yet another revolution, based on something nobody has seen or even thought of yet. Apple is...

    Apple: Microsoft's Friend or Foe?

This issue has come up before. Something the article does not mention, but which has been mentioned here, is the way Apple keeps eliminating the 'need' for Office with free iApps. Examples include the way iCal, Mail, and Address Book offer the most important features of Entourage; Quicktime...

Should the windows forum be recreated?

Most Mac users I've met, both in real life, and online, are "switchers," and many switched [I]because[/] of their extensive Windows experience. I agree with your statements when applied to PC users bashing Macs a lot more than I can the other way around. This is a Mac site, I come here to read...

    This cracked me up

O.K., 2 things, then I'll shut up. First, I think the new 750M Zip drives suck b/c they only "read" 100M disks, not write. At least according to every place I've read about them … Anyway, I understand the "out with the old and in with the new" philosophy, except at my school we struggle to get...

IE 6 / Windows XP incompatible?

I have the same problem at school. Unfortunately, we are stuck with IE only at this M$-centric campus, so basically I have to wait until I visit my other fave sites before this one to view them correctly. It really sucks that this site makes Apple.com, appleturns.com, macminute.com, etc.. almost...

IBM gives vision for future Macs

Well, I for one have not seen it. What I have seen are a number of people swearing the Power4 is not the future of the Mac, because it does not have real AltiVev. I would guess they might have to change their tune now... On a personal note, this processor sounds very promissing to me, but I am...
