I checked some of the binaries including httpd on my iMac, and indeed these are universal. PPC and i386. I'd believe they left out the PPC binaries in the Intel version, but it might be that the whole system is universal and installable on PPC Macs.

Borrowing some ideas and developing them further can be good sometimes, but stealing a concept and making it look like crap is just sad.

I guess Apple's programmers are employed, so that won't be an expense except they'll have to delay new features. It seems reasonable that Apple will offer a free downloadable update as with Logic Pro and upcoming Aperture.

I noticed there's a dock on the display as well. Also, some UI elements on the device look remarkably similar to Apple's. Not that Microsoft isn't known for borrowing Apple's concepts, but it still made me think for a second that Apple is involved.

2D performance is what matters for most tasks in a graphics-intensive OS. A Quartz benchmark would be more appropriate to compare the minis. I don't think anyone would expect to be able to run the latest 3D games on a Mac mini with blazing speed anyway. As Mikuro pointed out though, 512 MB RAM...
