    On Thumbnails and webpages ...

I'm sure there is a prog out there to do it, but can't remember the name. In the meantime, you can do all the images in one shot by setting up a Photoshop action and batch processing them to another directory at the size and format you require for the thumbnails. It might be even easier with...

    Switch?

Yeah, its all there on the Dev CD and its a piece of cake to get to grips with - I've only done very limited programming and I'm getting the hang of it. As for the other major apps, Adobe and Macromedia are all well in on OS X - all we're waiting for is the slowpokes at Quark. <recalls classic...

    How to print CD labels?

I've got all the Avery/Eurolabel Quark templates if you want them - can AppleWorks open Quark files? I haven't got it so i can't check. If not, you should be able to create one without too much trouble - worth a few minutes if you're going to be using it a lot. Would possibly by easier in Quark...

    Chameleon Macs

Cool, so I set my desktop pattern to a new colour, and my computer changes colour too! And if its working really hard, it goes all hot colours. Love it. Only Apple could pull this one off. Wonder who's responsible for the stunning piece of artwork which accompanies the patent!

Cheap Alkaline Clock Batteries in the UK

They don't even seem to sell them! Any other ideas?

Cheap Alkaline Clock Batteries in the UK

I'm trying to get hold of one of the 4.5v cube clock batteries for my Umax but the prices I'm getting are stupid. Cheapest I've found in the UK is £20 ($31) from Gordon Harwood PLUS shipping. OWC and other US sites have them for as little as $8.50 but the only shipping option is FedEx $28! Small...

    T68i + MCA20 + Bluetooth..

I've got one! The cheap Bluetooth adapter from the Apple Store lets you drag and drop files from your desktop to send to your phone, and receive them back to your Mac. The quality of the pics is okay at 640x480, but it saves things as GIFs so they're still 256 colour, albeit brighter than on the...

Installation problems on a G3 Tower

On older Macs, the boot disk can have a maximum size of 8Gb. if you are installing on a bigger drive you need to partition it, ensuring the boot partition is within the first 8Gb of the drive (at the top of the box in the partition part of Drive Setup. I had the same problem installing on a...

Why Apple can't disable OS 9 booting completely

Yeah, there's InDesign, which is possibly better than Quark and if it was just a case of one user, one computer, sure, just change, but when you have a whole production process using Macs, Imagesetters, CTP, all sorts of RIPs and whatnot, plus your entire customerbase, and a lot of specialised...

Why Apple can't disable OS 9 booting completely

I'd hardly call Quicksilvers old tech! There's not much between them and your current model. I'd be happy to get rid of OS 9 right now if Quark would sort themselves out and give us what we're waiting for, but you can't just expect everyone to jump straight to new machines. While you might...

Why Apple can't disable OS 9 booting completely

USB2.0 Connect from Adaptec - PCI card, for the occasional HD I have to get stuff off. And it is a Quicksilver, not a mirrored door one. The Bluetooth adapter is just USB1.1. Maybe I should invest in some commas!

    Max RAM in a powerbook G3 (firewire/pismo)?

The top slot in the G3 Powerbooks can take high profile stuff - basically like a normal piece, but twice the height from the days when they couldn't make the chips small enough. If you look on OWC for Powerbook RAM you can get two versions, the high profile being slightly cheaper. I don't think...

    Max RAM in a powerbook G3 (firewire/pismo)?

I've got 384Mb in a Wallstreet series 2 which has a max memory of 192Mb. Eventually I'll probably get 512. The only thing was that I had to pay more to get 66MHz RAM because the cheaper (PC100) stuff which should have worked according to lots of people, didn't. The original limit was set...

Why Apple can't disable OS 9 booting completely

Why can't we have clients like that?! If one more of ours tries to supply a print job in Powerpoint, I'm gonna unplug and leave the planet for good. OS X or not.

    G3 value question

Take the G4! Take the G4! Especially if you're going to be running OS X. I use a G3/300 at work and a G4/867 at home and the difference is quite pheonomenal. As already said, the eMac's probably your cheapest option for a new machine or you could probably pick up a graphite G4 cheap. Check...

    help opening a quark file

Sometimes there are XTensions which make files unreadable by versions of Quark without that XT. One notorious one is a Scitex XT, but if you drag the file onto an app called KillScitex (you should be able to download it somewhere), it makes it openable again. You do really need to give more...

After all the Dark Side isn't THAT fast!

And that's still the most important thing. My G4 is fast enough to do what I want it to do and I enjoy doing it. There may be PCs that can apply a Photoshop filter faster, and while the G4 won't necessarily do it any better, it'll always do it nicer.
