HELP - How do you change directory (cd) to the CD-ROM drive using Terminal?

Umm you know you have to put double quotation marks around the words of a volume name that is more than one word, eh.

Correct procedure for adding users with niutil?

I'd like to know how to to add users using "niutil". Essentially, I need to know the correct procedure, and which key-value paris are necessary for a terminal-only user (SSH/FTP). I looked through testuser's addFTPUser script and it was quite informative, I just want to make sure that...

Changing the terminal host name from [localhost:~/]?

I used to do lots of work on a machine running bash, like 3-4 years ago, Ièm vaguely remembering some of that now. Excellent and concise reply, perhaps admin should make this a HOW-TO! :) Cheers,

Changing the terminal host name from [localhost:~/]?

How do I change the terminal name from localhost to something else? It looks rather strange to have it say localhost when I'm logged in remotely. Thanks!

"iTunes Temp 1" in iTunes directory??

Very interesting, I am using NAV with AP. Can i safely delete those files? Or are they necessary to maintain the integrity of my listing?

    Command "." like [TAB]?

I noticed that when I hit "." in tsch I get the same thing that pwd returns. And if I hit ".." it essentially "cd .."s. Are those system command aliases like "ll" for "ls -la" that come out-of-the-box. PS Where are those command aliases kept again? "~/.alias"? I've got default command...

"iTunes Temp 1" in iTunes directory??

I just noticed that there are 7 files in my iTunes folder named "iTunes Temp #" (replace # with 1-7) and the iTunes file icon with "DATA" at the top. They're all in the 1.3 MB range. Since they're so small I assume they're not complete CD-R write caches. So what are they?

Recording my bass on my iMac TFT

thanks for the suggestion. There are a few good external IEEE 1394 compliant devices (like Sound Blaster's) with light pipes and SP/DIF connectors and stuff, but it's a little pricey :) And ksv is right, if you really want to go pro you gotta get a tower and install PCI cards and SCSI HDDs to...

On the subject of sound recording in X

I had an idea. I was thinking that perhaps Apple didn't include a proprietary (iSound :p) sound recording software in OS X to allow software developers to come up with ones themselves. Economically it benefits Apple in the following ways: - Boosts X software development, because you know...

Recording my bass on my iMac TFT

ksv, While it IS true that sound is purely analogue, I seem to remember a few other standard form for digital audio: CD, MP3... ;) But boy do I ever agree with you! HOW hard would it have been to put in an analogue audio in on the TFT...

Recording my bass on my iMac TFT

I know what you mean! Yikes it's annoying. But the thing is that I really need a multi-track recording application, and most shareware ones I've tried just don't do that. Amadeus II is good, powerful, but not quite pwoerful enough for me... BIAS Deck 3.5 seems like a pretty darn...
