    Help

buy a legitimate copy? :p That's the only way I can guess you'd be able to reinstall the OS. I don't know if anyone can burn a copy and FedEx it to you... ;)

    Web Host: Unix or windows

I'd go with Linux because I find it more stable and eaiser to remote-manage. As a contrast, I administered an OS 9.1 machine running WebSTAR on a G4 (forget the processor speed) with tonnes of RAM and OMG that was not pretty... crashed twice a day, reinstallations, deactivation almost all...

I use Chimera for everything except: -Posting attachments here (browse local to upload doesn't work) -Downlaoding files (because sometimes it downloads files and prints the ASCII contents on my screen :p -Online banking -Anything with plugins But then again it is version 0.3 so it's...

    SSH login

Sure! But I meant that so that you can test to see that the daemons are running while a user is logged out...which was mentioned so I'm keeping my mouth shut.

Help me please with ftpd settings

The file you're thinking of is not ~/etc/motd but /etc/motd and is a plan text file displayed to all users who login to the terminal (locally or via SSH, and perhaps FTP as well I'm not sure). Mine reads [localhost:~] gwailo% cat /etc/motd Welcome to Helios; *AUTHORIZED PERSONNEL ONLY*...

Haha I clicked one of the banners at the top of this site and got to a neat paraphenalia store, which sells this interesting aquarium. Maybe I'll get one for my dorm next year haha. http://www.redlightrunner.com/imacaquarium.html

    Site Downtime (errors)

I personally think the pipe in the middle of .com|munity looks really bad, it looks like a typo. I understand the idea, because the graphical one by the banner looks great... Just my $0.02 :p

There's no manual eject button that I could find, and if Apple didn't tell me about it over the phone they're, well, :)

    Interesting problem--stuck CD crashes system.

I also removed LSApplications, LSClaimTypes, and LSSchemes from ~/Library/Preferences early on, before any of the PRAM stuff.

    Interesting problem--stuck CD crashes system.

Here's a problem a friend of mine had with his new (2 week) iMac TFT 800MHz. They had a stuck CD, which would not appear either on the Finder or in /volumes. The Media Eject button on the keyboard would not open the tray. Restarting to the Finder didn't help, and holding the mouse button at...

    filesystem for all?

On a sidenote, depending on what you want to do, you could take this route. I just got a cool USB flash media "drive" which ranges in size from 16 MB to 1 GB, and it supported on all those platforms; XP, linux and OS X natively, Win 98/ME requires a driver which comes on a small CD or is...

Can't run carbon apps any more!!!

I've no idea what you did wrong, but as a sidenote you can also start applications from the terminal with open -a [application name] open "file name" Assuming that the file is in your cwd and the application is in your path, you won't need absolute pathnames. The open command finds the...

    Firewall problems

What didn't you like about BrickHouse? By the way, BrickHouse is just a GUI for the OS X integrated firewall, it is not in itself a firewall like Norton Personal Firewall is. Depending on what network setup you have, you could consider getting a hardware firewall (i.e., a router). I've got an...
