Display "sleep" = display dim in 10.1.5?

I don't have enough informaiton to validate this supposition, but I had my display set to sleep after 5 minutes, and the display dimmed after 2:30 exactly. Perhals is half the sleep time? For some reason when I moved the slider above 5 minutes I don't get the dim. Anyways it looks cool...

Display "sleep" = display dim in 10.1.5?

Ok well it appears as though Apple has implemented a two-staged sleep, and as far as I can determine this only applies to the iMac TFT (perhaps other flat-panel displays as well). The screen dims, as would an iBook's when the battery is low. When the system is triggered (i.e., mouse...

Display "sleep" = display dim in 10.1.5?

I noticed that my display now dims instead of going black in 10.1.5 (iMac TFT). Is there any way to change this? I like to leave my computer running for Folding@home and downloads and stuff, but my iMac's in my room and far too bright to leave on all night. It appears that the only...

Do hidden windows still process graphics for the display?

If I hide an application, such as Folding@home, will the CPU (in 10.1) continue to process the application's GUI, or will it free the processor because it knows the window is not visible? Cheers,

It was along the same vein at this statement.

    Ahah Microsoft kills me!

Ok this isn't supposed to be the funniest thing you've ever seen. I just found it interesting that they used "upsell" as the variable name in their query sting instead of something less obviously commercial like "upgrade=no". The page was so geared toward upselling the reactivating user that...

    Once bounce with no start?

I have only seen one brownout in my life in this city: we have a rather plentiful supply of hydro power. But thanks for the suggestion!

    Trouble with SLEEP issues

I'm not sure which screen you're using, but here's my $0.02 I currently have an iMac TFT and I had problems making the screen sleep, so I reset the energy saver configurations with the hard reset inside the case. When I had an iMac DV 450MHz running OS X I could never get the screen go...

    Gui Pgp?

I noticed GnuPG, as well as (http://www.macosx.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=6446&highlight=PGP) but I was wondering if Mr. Zimmer came out with an OS X version of PGP desktop, or any other GUI PGP client. I don't really want to use the command line...

    Once bounce with no start?

I was downloading a huge ZIP file with MSIE 5.1 last night, which seemed to go fine. When I came to my computer in the morning, I could not get any applications to open. The icon bounced once in the dock, then settled back down with no black tick underneath. I could, however, open Terminal...

Mounting my USB SmartDisk with AppleScript/Terminal

Ok this is a slightly funny question. I've got a USB Universal SmartDisk (www.universalsmartdisk.com) which is a flash media "hard drive" USB 1.1 compatible. It mounts just fine automatically, but when I trash (unmount) it the light on the device goes out and it is no longer recognized by...

    10.1 to 10.1.4??

When I had to reformat, I just installed 10.0 then 10.1 update, then just ran Software Update until there was nothing left--didn't find it that bad :)

    Ahah Microsoft kills me!

I returned to an old hotmail account I hadn't used in a while, to ifnd that it needed reactivation. One of the screens had a huge table outlining the advantages of paid hotmail, with a tiny link to reactivate for free at the bottom. Look at one of the CGI variables in the URL itself to boot! :p

    Router question

I assume you mean, as Jadey said, that you have DCHP configured with a NAT, and that "the IP address" is your WAN IP. Well you need to figure out what the IP address of your router is, which will be on the configuration page (where you setup port forwarding, etc). Here's my example...

    USB flash storage media ("disks")

I just got a Universal Smart Drive (www.universalsmartdrive.com) 16MB, and am about to return it for a 32MB. Does anyone else use USB storage media like this? Mine works with MacOS X, Classic, Windows 98-XP so it's pretty cool!
