to eMac or not to eMac...

I personally think the eMac is a great buy. It's a hellava deal for a G4 with great on screen resolution and I actually really like its design. I went to see it at the Apple Store and it looks quite sleek and is not bulky at all.

    G5 or what...??

The POWERx architecture has binary compatibility with the PowerPC API, so technically it's possible to run OS X on top of POWERx chips. However, at present it is not possible to run OS X on any of the RS workstations, and it's not possible to simply plug in a POWERx chip in existing Macs. Also...

    G5 or what...??

I don't understand this IBM worshipping that's going on. People seem to think that IBM have G3's running at 1.xGHz shipping in volume. This is totally untrue. The truth is that the latest G3 (the FX) tops out at 1GHz, and that's NOT shipping in volume at all! In fact, there are hearsay going...

Will OSX ever be as fast as XP?

Also, keep in mind that OS X's display layer (Quartz) is a completely new display engine. It's nothing like QuickDraw or Display PostScript. So it's pretty understandable that there are still some performance issues that needs to be worked out. I have high hopes on OS X's future...

    G5 or what...??

Umm... IBM's G3 is NOT way faster that Motorola's G4. Last I checked the fastest IBM G3 runs at 1GHz (and that's not even shipping in volume) while the Motorola G4's are shipping in volume at 1GHz. Not saying that I wouldn't want faster systems from Apple, especially now that they are trying to...

    Dialup PPP: regular disconnects.

This was happening to me until I changed which number I use to connect to my ISP. Which makes me think that some of the lines the ISP provided were not up to par.

    PowerBook RAM question

I am pretty sure the PBG4 needs the DIMMs to be PC-133 rated. If those DIMMs you have are PC-133 compliant, it should work. But you should check with an Apple technician first.

Do YOU want the Trash back on the Desktop?

I like it in the dock. With tinkertools I can pin the dock on the right side of the screen, so the trash is always at the same place (bottom-right corner). That way I don't need to know where I am dragging the items, I just hit the corner and viola!

Will OSX ever be as fast as XP?

Umm... Nope. Film projections are still at 24fps. At 24fps, our brain can merge all the indvidual frames and give us the perception of fluid motion. When the "talkies" were introduces, the film speed didn't change. The only thing that changed is that part of the film stock has either embedded...

How to increase Mac sales? Give away iPods!

I have to admit that one of the factors in my recent purchase of a DVI TiBook is the $100.00 rebate on an iPod purchase before 6/30/02. I bought my new iPod yesterday, and I love it! Perhaps not giving the iPod away, but I'd love to see Apple give you an "instant" rebate with purchase. That...

Which browser do you use for primary?

Mozilla is my favorite. I use it at work on a PC and I use it at home on my TiBook. On my work machine, I have the IE theme running so that the IS group thinks I am using their "approved" browser, but on my Mac I use the "Pinstripe" theme, and it looks great! I don't know why it's crashy for...

    Apple Pro Keyboard kicks arse!

I miss those old Apple Extended Professional Keyboards... The tactile feedback on those were amazing. Even the NeXT keyboards were great compared to the new keyboards. But I have to admit I love the TiBook/iBook keyboards. AWESOME!

    PB 667 DVI CD-RW Issue

Same here! I never owned a TiBook before, so I assume that it's always been like this. It seems like that I have insert a CD practically all the way in before it would be "sucked in". No way to use those smaller format CD's.

Windows "Borrowing" Dock from OS X

I think part of the reason why people feel that NeXT was Apple's "birthright" is because the majority of people who wrote NeXTSTEP were.. *tad dum* the original Mac OS developers. Also, correctly or not, the Macintosh was considered to be Jobs' baby, so it's kinda logical that the new Macs...

Anyone read this yet... I tend to agree.

It's interesting how much people are willing to devote to the analysis of anything "Apple". Apple's ability to generate controversy and discussion often puts it in a no-win situation. The truth is that if Apple has presented more attractive "real people" in its new campaign, it would be attacked...

    Adding additional display. HELP!!!

There shouldn't be any performance degradations, just a lot of cables! :) You might be able to find those cables elsewhere. Good luck!

    Instructions not included

Does the "getting started" guide talks about installing software from disk images? I think that is one concept that is hard for most Windows users to grasp, that you can drag and drop install in Mac OS. I know it's so intuitive, but most Windows users expect software to mess with the registry...
