as far as i know you should be able to use any mac compatible IDE cd rom drive. from my understanding, the beige G3s do have to have the device set to master if you plan on booting from them though.

I don't think the harddrive speed would be an issue for anything that has been mentioned so far, except the video editing. doing things like playing mpegs that are up to a somewhat large resolution should be fine, but i think you will run into issues with doing DV files. the easiest solution...

if you are going to upsizing images it is best to do it in small intervals, but if you need to make a lot of pictures larger or you need to make them REALLY large, it would be best to use something like genuine fractols or the fred miranda action.

randman, I think he was trying to say that is about what the formatted capacity of the internal 40gig drive on the mini would be also. i have a 40 gig in my ibook, after i installed the complete os and the dev tools and ilife 04 and route 66 and photoshop 7, i have about 26 gig left.
