Help! I've somehow hidden an application and can't get it back

If I hide applications all I have to do is click on the icon in the dock and it shows it again. I am using 10.4.9, I don't know if it is any different in earlier versions of the OS.

Mac Pro Users Feedback on Parallels?

You might want to take a look at VMWare Fusion which is out in Beta at the moment and free to download. Unlike Parallels you can resrict it to use only 1 core on a Core Duo based Mac to limit its impact on system speed when it is running.

iMac G5 not picking up internal speakers

If you have re-installed Tiger and still get the same symptoms I would have to say it is probably a hardware fault. I don't know if Techtools or any other diagnostic software will help, otherwise give Apple Support a call. Probably not what you wanted to hear.

    Vista, the osx wanna be....?

I have not had a problem with the brand we use, but have come across it with others. Ironically the only problem I have with mine is that it has two partitions and on initial plugging into the Mac it only mounts the first one. If I eject it and reinsert it both partitions mount. On either...

    Vista, the osx wanna be....?

The little icon in the system tray that Symphonix refered to. You can also eject it from within the Explorer window, by right click>eject. It is just a case of getting used to the interface. I have as many problems with users going from PC to Mac as the other way round. Maybe as I am lucky...

    Vista, the osx wanna be....?

Symphonix, just left click and select safely remove and it ejects it with no extra prompts. Not much different to the Mac really just a smaller icon.

    Vista, the osx wanna be....?

Mushy eye candy.... you can rule out both if that is an issue. Get a copy of any linux distro with a basic Gnome or KDE GUI and that should suit. I t will be interesting to see what extra functionality Leopard has when it arrives later this year. Wolf_Pack, lots of memory, like I said before...

    Should I buy parallels?

Take a look at VMware's Fusion which is out on Beta at the moment for rfree download. I am finding that a bit better than Parallels at the networking side. The Coherence mode in the new version of Parallels is nice though.

    Vista, the osx wanna be....?

The last beta version of Vista would be slow, it still had an awful lot of debug code in it. The release version is running on my 4 year old Compaq with 512MB RAM with no problems or speed difference to how it runs XP. Maybe I got lucky. The who copies who argument is getting a bit tired...

Losing our Macs to PCs because of $$$$

The PC laptops we buy have a life expectancy and warranty of three years which is exactly the same as the Macs. I would agree in the past Mac systems have a had a longer useful life expectancy than their PC counterparts. However the flaw in that point now is under the shiny case they are very...

Losing our Macs to PCs because of $$$$

Our graphics department does a lot of it's own printing in house, but does occasionally send jobs to external printers. When I started here the department was exclusively Mac as it was 'the industry standard' at the time. It now runs both Mac and PC, but this is driven by the fact that we have...

Losing our Macs to PCs because of $$$$

Nixgeek, like you I am employed in an educational environment. I agree with what you say to a point, but maybe my experience is different because of the mixed platform setup we have here. A lot of our users already switch between Macs and PCs depending on what is available in their group...

Losing our Macs to PCs because of $$$$

As I tried to make clear, it will depend on what is driving the change of platform. If the firm is going to migrate to Indesign anyway any costs associated with that can be factored out as they will exist on whatever platform is is based. As an IT professional I do not think I am being naive...

Losing our Macs to PCs because of $$$$

Vista will run the software he mentions with no issues at all, I know I had to test it. Working for an IT department using both PCs and Macs I would have to say that the cost implications of using Macs over PCs is very high, especially if you are looking at Mac Pro over iMac. The cost of my...

    Vista and Bootcamp

It installed fine on my Macbook Pro, only issue i had was that it didn't recognize the disc requesting an XP disc, but I just booted from CD in the normal way and it was fine. You will need to use the following guide to get all you devices working properly. http://www.geocities.com/nja469

    Strange IP address issue

It looks like what you have been provided with is, like you say a modem and as such is not capable of routing as it does not handle routing. When you connect the airport express which is a router the problem is resolved. I am not surprised his laptop worked as it will have been specifically...

    Mac OS X 10.3.9 :: Slows to a Crawl

I would be careful moving a lot of stuff over to the new account, just put it somewhere where it can access the files. As your user profile grows it takes longer to load things and if it becomes excessively large it can actually cause the problems you are experiencing.

Your guesses on Secret Leopard functionality

Ora, I can well imagine applications not running under 10.5 that ran under 10.4. There have been cases of this on all previous upgrades, which have either been patched or the software discontinued for Mac. In the earlier days it would occasionally occur on point releases as well.

Your guesses on Secret Leopard functionality

I'd settle for backwards compatibility with all existing OSX applications, now that really would be a first.

    Vista and MacBook Pro

I have just installed Vista on a Macbook Pro Core Duo 2 2.33Ghz using Bootcamp and it flies. You don't need to install that many drivers as much of the hardware works with drivers supplied during the installation. Only airport and iSight camera didn't work for me. Just download the...
