    audio volume slider keeps resetting

The default level can only be set using an account with admin rights. If the account you are using doesn't have them that is why it keeps resetting.

    please help

You could try a piece of software called Senuti, just do a Google search for it. I'm not sure if it is shareware or freeware, but it will let you copy from your iPod bac to your Mac.

    MS Entourage Help

I have come across this before. A user had configured a mailing list and mails from any member of this list were moved to the Folders on the Mac. Let me know if this is not the case.

    Mobile Account Problem

I run a number of macs on an Active Directory domain and they are configured to use mobile accounts so they can be logged into off the network. This has so far worked perfectly. We have recently purchased a couple of Macbook Pro Core 2 Duo systems and while they work fine when connected to...

    No Word on..

I think that Vista will be supported in the full Boot Camp Release that will come with Leopard. It would make no sense for Apple to spend so much time developing a product for OS that will not be around for much longer. I have not found the full version of Vista to be a pain to get running at...

    Vista Stinks... Here's Why...

Having used Vista now for several months from Beta 2 to the finished product I can say it is a fine operating system. Am I the only one who gets really annoyed by the whole switch thing, I, like many have not 'switched' from PC to Mac or vice versa. I am a computer user who embraces both...

    What is 'dashboardadvisoryd' for?

As far as I can remember it checks to see if you have the latest version of all your running widgets. You can disable it using the following in a terminal window : sudo mv /etc/mach_init.d/dashboardadvisoryd.plist /etc/mach_init.d/ dashboardadvisoryd.plist.disabled

The Mac is doooomed (tell me I'm crazy)

I have to agree with Mikuro on ost of this, but in the end as with all business decisions it will come down to money. Apple has been moving away from the computer as a computer. and more to the computer as a media centre, as have Microsoft for the last few years. I don't think this will...

    Apple Remote Desktop 3 Questions

Double check that at least one of the accounts is admin on both machines and use this one. Under System Preferences > Sharing > Apple Remote Desktop make sure that account is selected from the list and all options are checked.

    Selective startup

I don't know about start up, but you can go to System Preferences > Accounts. From there click Login Items and select what you want to run when you login. If you want this to be the same for multiple user in say a networkrd environment you can modify the login.plist file to include these...

    Apple Remote Desktop 3 Questions

It sounds like you are not using an administrator account to run ARD. If you go to Apple Remote Desktop > Preferences and click on the security tab it will show you what you can do as a non admin user and can be changed by an admin from there.

Cons of iPhone and Apple TV

Sorry, bad choice of words. I meant marketing it as a type of PDA rather than a sophistcated mobile phone/media player. As you say programability for third party apps will be the key to its success.

Cons of iPhone and Apple TV

Many, really , could you make Fryke happy and list them because I'm struggling to find more than a couple. Bottom line you have a hard disk based video system with wi-fi capabilities to link to your computer so you still need 2 devices not one and a mobile phone linked exclusively to one...

    Melanie Tucker must die!

That would be fairly different to iPod/Itunes as the products in question are developed for a specific platform, be it Windows, OSX or PSP. They are not modified to prevent them running on other equipment. It is more like the poor attempt to copy protect CDs a couple of years back so they...

    Itunes TV Shows to DVD

It does bother a lot of users, me for one. See the following web page for the lawsuit just filed in the US regarding this very subject http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/01/03/apple_itunes_lawsuit/ Also Apple's seeming reluctance to release figures for actual sales through the iTunes...

You could take a look at Boomerang, there is a demo linked from the OSX>Downloads section of the Apple website currently.

Exchange, Home Directories and Domain Servers

If it is now on the domain to map your home share you need to click on Go>Connect to server and enter the following : smb://<ip address of system with homeshare>/<homeshare name>, you maybe prompted for your password again. This should map the share to the desktop.

Exchange, Home Directories and Domain Servers

To bind the Mac to your domain you need to first make sure that all its network settings are as they should be for your network, including IP address, gateway, subnet mask and DNS servers and search orders. Once this is done in Directory access click on Active Directory and then configure...

Exchange, Home Directories and Domain Servers

If you are not, as I suspect, a member of the IT team it is almost certain you have not connected to the domain. It is also highly unlikely that you have a valid IP address for the network you are trying to access. Connection to a domain is not the same as logging on to it as if the system does...

use of VPN connection and loos of internet access

All network traffic will go through the VPN tunnel while you are connected, the problem you have is most likely caused by the company using a proxy server for web access. That is unless they don't allow web access from their network. Ask them to let you have the details and you would just...
