    Can Apple get a Virus?

Recent experience has enlightened me to the fact that Apple's policy is 3 repairs before a replacment. It shouldn't be a big job to replace the HD though.

    New iTV (Not final name)

Well as I understand the info on this it needs iTunes running on a PC or Mac for it to work so it does not stream directly from the internet. It is funny I have Windows system and an Xbox 360 that have been doing that for nearly a year now, plus I can play games on the 360 in HD as well. Not...

    Question about User accounts

Yes that is it, all users have a network account and there is one admin account on each machine for us to use for administrative tasks, usually done via ARD. When they delete this users admin account they will get the option to delete immediately or backup the profile. If they take the second...

    Question about User accounts

Apologies for the double post, it did not appear to go through first time.

    Question about User accounts

Here is the other side of the coin. I am an systems admin on the same type of network as you describe and I can say you definitely do NOT need an admin account. No user here has an admin account that they use to login on the network on either a Mac or PC, myself included. The reason you...

PLEASE HELP! share pc internet via ethernet

Having tried it myself the easiest ways are to either reverse the connections so you share the Macs internet connection via an ethernet cable, or probably the best is to get a USB wireless adaptor for the Mac, the D-Link DWL22 or the Belkin F5D7050uk (3000uk) model, both are less than £20 and...

PLEASE HELP! share pc internet via ethernet

You shouldn't need a crossover cable, most Macs are smart enough to know they are not connected through a hub and can switch their network port accordingly. I don't know if using a crossover cable might cause problems.

Powermac G4 not booting, just gives a little light :/

Depending on how old your G4 is you could try reseting the pram by powering up holding down the option>apple>p>r keys or on the older blue/grey ones there is a reset switch on the system board near the battery. Hold that down for 5 seconds and release, close the case and try powering up again.

    Does Mac have ZIP available?

There is a program called Stuffit Expander which is available free as a decompression tool or for a fee if you need to compress as well. Alternatively if you are happy using a terminal command line the unix tar command is on your system. Type 'man tar' followed by return in a terminal window...

    ipod mac or pc

That way round you should be alright, the PC will have formatted it to FAT32 which can be read and written to by your new Macbook.

Connecting two old macs on internet.

If the Macs are close together you should be able to connect them to each other and from system preferences > sharing > Internet on the iMac you should be able to share the internet connection with the other machine. Cheaper than fitting an airport card and hub.

Mac and PC sharing airport express?

Possibly, but Macs work with pretty much any wireless router so I would not necessarily go for an airport one. On the other hand if they are close together connect them with an ethernet cable and set the Mac up with the DSL connection and share that connection through the ethernet port.

Turning PowerMac G3 in to web server?

No, your wireless system will issue IP addresses within one of the restricted IP address ranges. You need a fixed IP address for you broadband connection to link a domain name to. Also you would probably need to have the mac connected directly to the broadband rather than via a router so that...

Mac Pro: The ultimate in desktop computing?

Well here in the UK (I'm not sure where you are) if you get caught doing more than 100mph they take your licence away for a while, that kind of restriction.

Mac Pro: The ultimate in desktop computing?

True, but then with laws governing speed it is never likely to be. Were there no such speeding restrictions I'm sure the new ones would be a lot faster than the old ones.

Unfortunately I would have to agree.

Turning PowerMac G3 in to web server?

First you will need a static IP to bind the DNS name you wish to use for your website. You can have more than one domain hosted on a single server, but each must have its own statis IP and domain name.

Mac Pro: The ultimate in desktop computing?

It certainly looks very fast, I'm sure you could spec a PC to match it for speed though it would be expensive, most Dells I have looked at come with a screen which might explain the $1000 difference. Can't see the the Porsche, Ferrari Masarati comparison though, you could never compare the G5...

    Redlining fans on PowerMac G5

You could try the following whihch has worked for me in the past with a similar problem. Goto System Preferences > Energy Saver click on the options tab and make sure the processor performance is set to highest. If it is not change it and quit system preferences. Restart the Mac and fingers...
