    Basic Question

OS 9 you're going to have to go into the system profiler. If you are using an iMac you don't have a dual processor though (that's what your sig says there so I dunno if that's what you were referring to or not). -Juxel

    iPod Hard-Drive Question

I went to the Apple Store in the Mall of America and talked to them and they basically told me the hard drive in the iPod should be suitable for any kind of use. It wasn't specifically designed to be constantly spinning at a high rpm and hasn't been extensively tested, but anything like that is...

    memory issue

This is just the way OS X utilizes ram. It's supposed to get you the most bang for your buck. Don't worry about it at all. -Juxel

    delay switching apps

I have a TiBook 667mhz, 768mb ram and I don't have any problems with PS7. I'm running 10.2.4 and it's working flawlessly. I also use it at school on a Quicksilver, not sure on the specs, but it doesn't have the delay there either. -Juxel

    IPOD for pc

If you're concerned about it I'd suggest going to Best Buy, buying a PC one, and then try it out. If it doesn't work you can return it, and even if it does you can if you want to get it cheaper somewhere else. I've had absolutely no problems with my 10gig PC iPod and I use it on my TiBook and...

Wierd disk message when logging in ....

Have you tried zapping the PRAM or holding down Option-Control-Shift, that resets the Power Management Unit which keeps track of devices in the machine. Wait about 10 seconds, then do a normal reset and that should reset the Power Management. Otherwise maybe try doing an archive re-install or...

    disable ip addr self-assignment

Hehe...You always have to start at the most obvious things I guess. Seems like that's the problem a lot of the times, something very simple that is just overlooked.

How are things installed in Jaguar

Could something like running the Permissions Checker fix a problem with only certain accounts being able to access things? I'm not sure, but just a thought.

    disable ip addr self-assignment

If you're feeling ambitious you could try removing the Airport Extreme Card, startup the computer while holding Option-Control-Shift, that resets the Power Management Unit which keeps track of devices in the machine. Wait about 10 seconds, then do a normal reset and that should reset the Power...

    10.2.4 killed RAM

I purchased all my ram from Apple, so it had better all be the same brand:eek: It only happened once, and I didn't even have to lift the keyboard up to get it working. The simple Zapping of the PRAM corrected it and I haven't had any problems since. -Juxel

    Home Networking Advice Needed

I work at an ISP and we have an Efficients DSL modem that we use and it has USB and Ethernet connection capabilities, and as soon as Efficients releases the firmware update it will function like a router in that you can hook one computer up with the Ethernet and one with the USB, which makes it...

    please help me file share!

In order for the Macs to detect that and make it work correctly it has to be between two new Macs, and not a Mac and a PC, correct? I haven't actually tried it, but that's what I read somewhere. -Juxel

    A cross-platform harddrive format?

Use Fat32. You can't read the NTFS on an OS X machine, and if you have to access the hard drive over the network that kind of eliminates the whole point of having a fast firewire drive to transfer and store files. -Juxel

    IPOD for pc

The Windows iPod will work flawlessly on the Mac. I just posted on a different thread about this same thing. If you are buying an iPod I would suggest getting a Windows version for a couple of reasons: 1. You get MusicMatch Studio Plus for free. 2. You get a converter for the firewire...

Fileshare between two OSX macs via modem?

Your DSL is configurable to get a real IP address, or at least map the incoming connections to a specific IP address. You can go into your modem (router) configuration utility and there should be either a port mapping or NAT settings menu in there. Then what you want to do is find out what...

Dead iBook, DC / Powerboard issue?

So when you use an already charged battery your computer works just fine? If that's the case it sounds like a power supply issue. There's a (fairly difficult to replace, and it's going to cost you) power supply in the iBook that has been known to go bad, but if your computer is working fine...

    10.2.4 killed RAM

I had the same problem on my TiBook...from 768 down to 256. Zapping the PRAM took care of my problem as well, but I haven't had any kernel panics like Fryke. -Juxel
