    tiger - finder

Huh, I can't imagine how Apple could really be proud of the current Finder. It's a failed combination of a file browser and the old spatial Finder, and thus doesn't work well in either mode... I've complained about this enough though already. Apple should check out the latest Gnome version and...

    Cherry OS in 3 Days

What I also don't undestand, is licence agreements that say "licence terms subject to change without notice". In essence that means I could be agreeing to anything when I click "accept"... which raises the question whether such clauses can be legal, even in the US.

    Cherry OS in 3 Days

Someone who undestands US law can perhaps clarify this, but to my undestanding simply because something is forbidden in the licence agreement doesn't make it the law. Licence agreements tend to say all sorts of crazy things, but whether they actually have any legal validity is a completely...

    Firefox 1.0rc1 Now out

I hope this is corrected in the future... it makes absolutely no sense to have the global setting for a preferred application "hidden" in the preferences of the default app.

Platinum Theme (Mail.app) - "The one with Susan..."

Doesn't anyone else feel that not having a clearly defined title bar is bad usability? In GUI design it's important to visually separate components from each other, and the title bar and toolbar are clearly totally different things. In contrast with BM, other parts of the Susan-style interface...

Platinum Theme (Mail.app) - "The one with Susan..."

Oh boy. This new look is neat and smooth, but not having a clearly defined title bar is certainly bad design. In fact, there is no "title bar". Brushed Alumin(i)um has the same flaw, and I always thought anyway that those window widgets look really awkward without anything to separate them from...

why the long wait for tiger?

I for one really hope they improve the crappy Finder, which also hasn't significantly changed since 10.0. Since then they've added a sidebar and changed from aqua to metal (which certainly is not an improvement), but the irritating spatial/browser hybrid remains. The Finder should use either...

    Apple also stole Launchbar.

The virtual folder stuff was also a feature of Copland, Apple's failed project for a modern OS. It's nice to see something similar has finally been implemented.

    wwdc updates

People complaining about "no ipods, not enough hardware" really should stop to consider what WWDC is. A developers' conference. Any iPod release will happen either at a consumer-oriented Expo or as a separate release, as has been Apple's style lately.

    10.4 Features!

You're right, and I should've been more clear about what I meant - Path Finder is a file browser, and as such works better than Apple's Finder because it functions consistently. Apple should separate the browser and spatial Finder completely, so that when you choose "New window" (new browser...

    10.4 Features!

I think this issue has been discussed many times - it's just not Apple's style to lump lots of unrelated features into one app, but instead have many apps which do one thing well and operate well with each other.

    iMac updates?

I very much doubt the iMac would ever be headless - it would cease to be an iMac. If you want a headless Mac thats what the PowerMacs are for ;)

    10.4 Features!

I'd like to see Apple focus on the Finder. It hasn't fundamentally improved since 10.0. John Siracusa has written a very good article on the problems of the OS X Finder, so I won't start repeating what he said here. http://arstechnica.com/paedia/f/finder/finder-1.html The most annoying thing...

    powerbook G5?

I don't think that's quite how things work in the business world - a partnership between two big companies doesn't necessarily mean they're going to share all knowledge. ;)

    powerbook G5?

No, I don't. What you wrote clarified things for me, and thanks for that. I admit my tone wasn't very constructive and I apologise for that. I just wrote what first came to mind in the middle of the night while reading this thread, and well... that usually results in something stupid. :o

    powerbook G5?

You also seemed to almost completely ignore what ksv said about the considerably lower energy consumption of the G5. I don't know much on the matter, but if you're ignoring ksv's comment just because you can't admit you might be wrong then that's rather sad. I hope that's not the case, though.

    New Omniweb browser

tabs in a drawer? Oh dear - the whole drawer concept is a crappy idea, as it is not actually part of the window. It essentially breaks the window zoom feature, because the window resizes as if the drawer isn't there. I haven't seen a single app where a hideable sidebar contained in the window...

    new iBook vs. powerbook

Just a note - even though the iBook does not support an extended desktop and higher resolutions on an external display out of the box, it is very easy (well, with an Applescript or instructions ;)) to enable this functionality on iBooks (and current iMacs and eMacs). It won't even void your...

SCO is starting to look in our direction

I don't know how exactly how the laws work in the US, but as far as I understand there's no way SCO can have the right to charge customers who use Linux even if their claims were correct. It's the distributors' business to pay license fees like that - of course the distributor can then raise the...
