Activity Monitor Suddenly shows ONE CPU in a dual 2.0 G5- HUH??????

Thanks "ElDiab", What concerns me then, is the fact that the fans (or one of the rear case fans) case fans spins up (approx 25% faster) for 4 seconds then drops to "normal", more often. I never noticed the fans spinning up much at all before, unless under heavy load. Maybe I just answered my...

Activity Monitor Suddenly shows ONE CPU in a dual 2.0 G5- HUH??????

I bought a dual 2.0Ghz G5 about a month ago. It worked fine til today. I went away for 30 minutes & found the machine frozen with the main fans running full blast. The machine was frozen with a panic. Two restarts resulted in freezes. The third time it booted. I checked the startup drive...

Mdd 1.25 cpu fried! MDD motherboard/cpu compatibility?

Sujanne, Welcome! For the folks here to help, we need more specifics. What model you have, as much info as you can give on the basic system you have. You can get a lot of it if you don't know from "about this mac" which is one choice in a dropdown menu from the apple in the upper left corner...

Mdd 1.25 cpu fried! MDD motherboard/cpu compatibility?

Thanks... your post in the other thread, however has me swallowing with a lump in my throat. ("many many other things..." [could have blown]). I see about the thinner fins being better. Actually my heat sink screws on with five screws. No clips. OK, so I'm really freaked out now... I need a...

Mdd 1.25 cpu fried! MDD motherboard/cpu compatibility?

Thanks Jesse, Yes it's absolutely a dual 1.25 , same as mine. The heat sink from what I can tell, looks a bit different. That's not my real concern. But I did read in one of these mac forums, that ROM instructions and other "stuff" on the motherboard make some revs compatible and some revs not...

Mdd 1.25 cpu fried! MDD motherboard/cpu compatibility?

I've just finished (after much help from folks here) diagnosing what's wrong with my MDD. Replaced PSU, motherboard good... FRIED CPU. My Logic board is marked 820-1476-A. I found a good used dual 1.25 CPU pulled from a MDD motherboard that's labeled (the label on the motherboard)...

G4 MDD PSU or other problem ...help?

I bought a replacement PSU, tested it, installed, and reseated the processor card. The fans now spin full on (madly) on start, lights on mother board come on, but no chime, no startup. Finally re-examining the CPU wit a magnifying glass I found a tiny pencil point black burn "dot" on one of the...

G5 ATI Card bad, possible replacements?

I just bought a used G5 (June 2004, dual 2.0 Ghz, PCI-X slots, 8x AGP slot). Using three different graphics apps, I get an intermittent series of colored hash marks all over the screen. Switching the screen resolution makes the hash go away but it returns every 15 minutes or so. I've pulled...

G4 MDD PSU or other problem ...help?

Hey Delta, Thanks. The crackle & puff came from the psu. My face was right there. But you pegged my worry, that somehow something else got fried. Still, I've already done all the things you suggested. I've seen no burn marks anywhere around the heat sink processor or any cards. I took a pic...

G4 MDD PSU or other problem ...help?

Hi all, I've had a MDD for 4 years. Dec 2007 the PSU died. I had it replaced under my renter's policy. Brand new PSU. Now, after 1.5 years, I was having disk corruption issues which led to numerous forced shutdowns (there's no "reset" button on the MDD) finally, after about 5 of these in one...
