    OSX Startup Garbage

    I'm sorry - I got my models inside out - the ROM is on the motherboard in the B&W, not rom-in-ram or on the hard drive. You might want to test your PRAM battery, too.

    OSX Startup Garbage

    The question was which firmware update did you apply, Apple's or the one from OWC? Both have to be applied under 9. Oh, and the B&W has the ROM-in-RAM deal, it's not on the HD. But you might still want to try and update the firmware again, just in case. The B&W didn't come with a...

    OSX Startup Garbage

    You updated your firmware - to the latest from Apple or the G4-enabling firmware from OWC, available HERE If you didn't install the G4-enabling firmware, boot into 9 and do it. You'll never get the B&W to run under X otherwise.

    USB 2.0 on a Mac? Need Clarification...

    Look in System Profiler. How many USB buses are listed? On my B&W, there is only 1 internal bus and the USB 2.0 card, with the drivers installed, adds 2 more buses. On the Sawtooth at work, there are 2 built-in buses, so the USB 2.0 card would add 2 more for a total of 4. Click on the...

    USB 2.0 on a Mac? Need Clarification...

    Your system only has USB 1.1 ports - the only Macs to have built-in USB 2.0 ports are the new G5's. Yes - the only way to support USB 2.0 in your TiBook is to add a USB 2.0 CardBus card and install the drivers (Panther supposedly supports these PCI cards without additional drivers).

    Compatible scanner for MAC OS X

    I couldn't install the 5.75A driver, either - same error - for my 1260P, even after repairing permissions. So I downloaded the latest Photoshop 7 Twain plug-in and that worked perfectly.

    Epson/Gimp print anticlimax

    To use the StyleWriter under X, you need to use an adapter like this It's a Farallon EtherMac iPrint SL Adapter - serial to ethernet. The LT version is for LocalTalk laser printers and later StyleWriters and the SL is for earlier StyleWriters.

    how do i make a startup disk?

    In order to burn a cd of a disc image, you need to burn the UNMOUNTED image. If you have toast, drag the unmounted image to the window after selecting "Other" and "Disc Image". In Disk Copy, click "Burn Image" then select your image in the resulting window, then click "Burn". When you...

    Old Macs -> USB adapters?

    I don't use an USB adapter - I use the PC Card compactflash adapter that came with the USB Lexar Media card reader I use on my B&W - I got the package (refurbished) from www.livewarehouse.com for about $9. I use the PC Card compactflash adapter on the 5300c which is running 8.1 - no drivers...

    Old Macs -> USB adapters?

    What media does your camera use? My camera uses compactflash and I have a PC card adapter that I use with my old 5300c on the road - came with my Lexar Media combo reader (compactflash & smartmedia) - but you can buy them separately. That way you don't have to have a SERIAL to USB adapter...

    USB 2.0 Burner in USB 1.0 Port

    USB 1.1 only supports 4x4x6x. However, you can get a Cardbus USB 2.0 card to run it at full speed for not so bad - Belkin (I think) makes a Mac-compatible PC card. And yes, Toast should recognize the drive with no trouble.
